Which headphones will sound better with fiio e17+e09k? (HD800 vs. T1)

I could get either the HD800 for 1100 (used, very good) or a Beyerdynamic T1 for 950 (new, extra padded headband from beyer).

I heard that the HD800 is picky when it comes to amps. Does this make a real, make-or-break difference, or is it mostly just slight refinements/placebo effect (like paying 500 dollars to replace crappy 7N copper cables with L33T 8N copper)

If it really is that picky, will the fiio e17/e09k work well with it?

Also, I mostly listen to progressive metal, symphonic, and electronic stuff, all with very impactful (not bassgasm, just exciting) parts.
All lossless or MP3@320.

Heya,

300ohm versus 600ohm with the Fiio E9 being your high powered option out of your total setup.

I'd go HD800 in this case, simply because your E17 and E9 are better suited to drive the HD800. Less power to the T1.

If you had a better amplifier, I would go T1 in a heart beat though.

They're both excellent, it's a preference thing. But based on your current equipment, you're slightly better suited to the HD800's requirements.

Very best,

Just a curious question

even with this setup, this WILL drive the T1's right? just less efficiently?

because i have a DT880/600, and it works fine

not sure what the real definition of "drive" may be, but my 880's work fine?

would i assume the T1's would work fine also?
