Build Quality: For something hand built, the overall build quality is quite good. Of course, it isn’t nearly as perfect as something from a plastic molding machine but it is far ahead from the...
Disclaimer: My only other good cans to compare these to are Beyerdynamics DT770 (250). I fully realize this review will be biased because of that. So please keep that in mind. This review is my...
First Impressions:
Well, when I first used these, I used them in the same place I'd expect myself to continue using these, on the go from place to place, and while at places outside the...
I bought these this week from amazon.co.uk for £10 including delivery. That's US $15.
Packaging, appearance, warranty, euro-nanny knows best:
Mine arrived in the small European packaging box,...
Absolutely beautiful little player. It's just a gorgeous chunk of tech that feels good to hold. For me personally tech has to have form as well as function and the AK120 doesn't disappoint on...
I don't know that segment so well but the brainwavz hm5 comes to mind, they are however relatively big.
What source are you going to drive it from, use the internal DAC of the E17? for headphones under 150$ a small DAP may have been sufficient.
Have a search around the forum, questions like these have been answered many times, and there's loads of guides, comparisons and reviews of headphones (by price category), dig in ;)
Sennheiser HD380Pro. Fairly balanced, good soundstage, around $150 (I've seen them between $140 and $190), closed, comfortable. Alternately, Creative Aurvana Live!, or Koss R/80 (I know, so much less expensive - but they're good, really). I don't think any of these, or any of the other models I could suggest, really need an expensive outboard amplifier.

I auditioned the HD380 yesterday. I did like them. It was straight from my iPhone. I would love to have heard them from an amp.
The 8400 works nicely from my E10, so E17 would suit it nicely as well, you can always use the bass boost to make it more enjoyable and turn it off when you want it flat.
