Good flat headphones under $150 to match Fiio E17

Yes, I got ahead of myself and purchased the amp before the phones.  I am new, I have to make mistakes.

Anyways, any ideas?  I want something fairly flat.  Maybe favoring to the lows. I do like porta pros but they are maybe a little bassy.

How portable does it need to be?

I don't know that segment so well but the brainwavz hm5 comes to mind, they are however relatively big.

What source are you going to drive it from, use the internal DAC of the E17? for headphones under 150$ a small DAP may have been sufficient.

Have a search around the forum, questions like these have been answered many times, and there's loads of guides, comparisons and reviews of headphones (by price category), dig in ;)

K601? Incredibly flat I would say... However, it is not going to be a very fun listen I guess.

It would be better to purchase HD650 instead and neutralise by Lunatique's EQ (E17 is not good enough though):

HD600 are also very good but it is lacking in bass...

I have no size preference.

I have been looking around.  Sometimes asking something again will bring some new opinions to the front.

Well what is it I want?  I want it for enjoyment.  I usually like a fairly flat sound.

I should add I want closed.

Yeah but K601 are most probably bright as hell, analytic, no fun, not very much bass impact... AKGs are quite specific, like Grados.

Closed? Hmmm, that is going to be more difficult... How much money are you willing to spend?

Sennheiser HD380Pro. Fairly balanced, good soundstage, around $150 (I've seen them between $140 and $190), closed, comfortable. Alternately, Creative Aurvana Live!, or Koss R/80 (I know, so much less expensive - but they're good, really). I don't think any of these, or any of the other models I could suggest, really need an expensive outboard amplifier. smily_headphones1.gif

I really enjoy AKG K240 with the E17. Very neutral phones. Shure SRH 840 as well.

I auditioned the HD380 yesterday.  I did like them.  It was straight from my iPhone.  I would love to have heard them from an amp.

I am really thinking on ordering the ATHM50s  Would that be a good choice? Thanks for all the help. Lots to think about.

KRK KNS 8400 - flat with great extension into sub-bass and treble

The 8400 works nicely from my E10, so E17 would suit it nicely as well, you can always use the bass boost to make it more enjoyable and turn it off when you want it flat.
