High-End Listening on a Low-End Budget?

I have a pair of modded D2000's and they are far and away the best cans I've ever heard. Now I know that they are an excellent set, but the truth is that I haven't listened to any other high-end audiophile headphones. Is there anywhere that I can go to listen to approx. 1k+ USD headphones or is there a way to rent such headphones or is this not possible?

Edit: Does anyone on these boards "lend" out headphones? I'd really like to know what I'm either missing and/or not missing, but either way I will not have enough money to spend on truly high-end headphones in the near future.

You can attend a local meet and listen to all sorts of gear and meet some cool people.

Terrific. That would appear to be exactly what I had in mind.
