These were announced a while ago (like a month) - they don't seem to be gaining much traction here. And like you said - I think targeting hipsters is exactly where they're at. Very much going the direction of "let's rip off Beats and do what Beats does because Beats sell" and ignoring that they had one of the best selling audiophile parts on the market (I mean seriously, unless Fostex decided they wanted more money or otherwise can't produce the old line, discontinuing the D2000 would be like discontinuing the M50, Pro4AA, or HD 600 - it just doesn't make good sense (and the Pro4AA may seem like a random inclusion there, but the reason I mentioned it is because Koss actually *did* discontinue it, and fans complained so much that they had to bring it back - I guess Denon isn't listening though)).
Supposedly the D7100 don't live up to the D7000's lineage, but offer substantially better isolation. So I'm guessing it's a real mixed bag. I don't think $1300 should be a mixed bag though.
Those brown pads though - man I agree, those are *horrible* looking.
