Yea, the A1 and the D1 were a little underwhelming, but good for their overall cost. The D2 is the new unit, all digital, better DAC, and tube pre-amp output. Great unit so far. And really doesn't remind me of the price point.

Very best,

Cool,

I was waiting for this.

How long did it take to get to you?

Are there other tubes that can be rolled?

Heya,

Only took a week or so (business days). Well packaged with foam insert and all. Comes with USB cable (a nice one even, was surprised) and a power cable, so you're good to go out of the box. I have not cracked it open to see how easy it is to roll tubes, but I assume you can roll them since you have options to change them when you buy it. I'll open it up soon and see if it's soldered or what. If not, you can for sure roll of course.

Very best,

I'm about to go to a SS dac and am worried about losing the signal tube. I expect to hear a stronger bass and bigger soundstage but I'm afraid I'll miss that tube goodness. Oh well, there is a 30 day warranty.

Which SS dac you thinking about HC?

First post here but long time lurker. Great info in this thread. I've ordered the Emotiva and hopefully have a line on a used HE-5. And yeah, I know you're all real sorry about my wallet.  wink_face.gif

Hey steppenout,

Welcome to Head Fi.  Yep, you guessed it.  Sorry for your wallet.biggrin.gif

I don't know if you prefer your headphones to be new or not.  However, used ones do pop up from time to time in the F/S section.

Just keep an eye out and act fast..

Good luck..

Thanks for the warm welcome. I've inquired about a few of them here and they really sell fast. Seeing as how I'm rather new here, the 2 private messages allowed per day is somewhat of an obstacle too. But, no worries, I'll persevere!!

I'll extend a welcome too!

The 2 PM a day limit gets lifted when you get enough posts (something low, like 10).

Pop onto some threads and say hi and ask some questions. The Hifimans really have a high resale value, and don't come up for sale used that often.

What are the HE-400s like on this setup? Couldn't find much when I skimmed the thread

HE-400 won't even need an amp like this. Regular headphone amp will be more than adequate.

They definitely don't need it. Still sounds pretty damn amazing with them though. biggrin.gif

I kinda assumed that haha, but is there anything that can beat it for $200?
