PM sent to you for buying a Robinette v3 box. Thanks

Well, you guys really want these boxes! I have decided to graciously extend the run to 15 units, no more. I have 4 spots left open, so you latecomers can still join the party!

Just thought I would chime in since this thread has helped me gather most of my gear.  I have an emotiva amp for my main setup, this is my desktop (and semi-portable) setup.  It is a topping TP 30 amp/dac.  Works fantastic with the LCD-2's.  The cable is from an ebay seller in China, jiangzhan2012.  They were very affordable at $58, I just requested he terminate with banana plugs.

FYI the TP30 does not share a ground between the two channels, so it is important to have them for each side of the headphone.  Someone explain that better for me :)

Thanks everyone for the insight, what an awesome thread!

That's a nice, clean setup. I'm a big fan of Class-T amps for driving headphones. Many people just can't believe such an inexpensive amp can sound so good.

Okay, so I kind of knackered my Mini-X this evening and stripped the bugger open. I'm still amazed that they are able to assemble this bit of kit for the price. Unfortunately you can see where some corners were cut with the build quality.

The preamp and power amp is connected via wire connectors. I tried bypassing the preamp circuit by hooking up the input directly to the power amplifier section, but it also appears to bypass the startup protection circuit, resulting in a disconcerting popping noise. I had an external preamp hooked up to the Mini-X. The popping noise wouldbe very dangerous to headphones and fortunately my cheap guinea pig speakers didn't seem to have come to any harm, but not going to try that again.

Going to explore options to see whether I can bypass the volume pot in the preamp circuit. Has anyone considered replacing the TL072CP on the preamp board with a TLE2072? Should result in a nice upgrade in sound quality without too much effort? The preamp circuit is definitely cheap as chips...

Youre looking to bypass the pre amp section in order to get a straight feed into the main amplifier and use an external DAC with built in pre-amp?

Exactly. I would like to pair the Mini-X with something like an Emotiva DC-1 using the volume controls on the DAC. Second prize would be to upgrade the circuit on the preamp to have a cleaner output.

I am a bit confused. On one hand you state that you wish to bypass the Preamp section altogether. On the other, you say that you would want to upgrade the circuit on the Preamp, again? Am I missing something ?
