I was considering the Soloist for two reasons. First, I wasn't about to drop retail on it, I was going to get it for much cheaper :) Second, I might be getting a LCD-2 in the future, and have heard pretty good things about the Soloist + LCD-2, and just wanted to make sure about the HE-500 as well. It seems you guys like it a lot. I might just give in and end up ordering this
Has anyone tried the Emotiva with LCD-2 or any other speaker amps.
Anyone here from Canada that ordered the Emotiva mini and know roughly how much it costs to ship and if there are any surprise customs at the door or anything? Hopefully they can declare low value, like Hifiman does.
If you're in Canada, get Fedex ground (default), paid 270CAD for the mini-X. UPS will run 230, and that's not even including brokerage and duties.

So you ordered it from Emotiva to Canada and told them to ship through Fedex ground and got everything for $270 flat, with no additional customs, taxes or fees? I have had enough bad experience with UPS to not deal with them again. Although isn't Fedex, especially ground, just as bad? I have heard that the cheaper shipping usually gives them enough time to compound the extra customs, whereas with the expedited shipping, it bypasses it quickly and avoids them. In my experience, I have found USPS always the best to deal with - never got any customs or any bs surprise at the door.

Flawed local comparison, you can get HE-500 for 600€ (~490£) inside EU. I bought it for 550€ last spring. But I think the recommended price jumped from 600€ -> 700€ just a while ago.

270CAD included all of the customs and taxes. They even quoted it beforehand. No surprises this time with Fedex, got everything without extra fees. Got them in 5 days as well!

Why don't you ask one of the uk suppliers here? Frank from Toxic Cables. If he could sell cheaper I'm sure he would.
Incase you hadn't gathered, I'm talking about the UK (thats the United Kingdom).

1) Where are you located
2) $270 --- what was the price when you bought this - the standard $219 or for the current sale price $179?

Yeah but the same applies to Euros as well...
The cheaper HIFIman headphones (HE-400,HE-500) are usually okay to get, but with the high-end flagships (HE-6,LCDs) its a PITA to buy these in EU for a reasonable price.
Again 1300 bucks=/= 1300 euros. That is not equal IMO. Here I am very thankful for the likes of HIFIman and Audio GD, who dont only provide cheaper shipping than their US counterparts, but makes the final price so much more friendly, thanks to their relaxed customs approach.

No, you were complaining about customs and how Hifiman is soo cheap from China and Audeze is expensive. Hifiman from EU is not that expensive, you were referring to UK like it was the only option.

Of course it does. Theres no argument there. Only I got accused of a "flawed comparison"
The HE400's are £395 here... That's 480 euros. HE500 £695 thats 850 euros... I'm whingeing about UK prices and duty fees not the rest of Europe.

My point just was that HE500 from China with customs is about the same price as from EU. If they declare smaller value, that's fine, you could save some. China might not care, but your customs could (they do know google here and it's a crime for you to declare falsely, no matter whats written on package).
Audeze is another matter, it's more expensive in the EU. But I always laugh when people expect US companies to fake value. You get jail time for almost sneezing there.
Of course it does not hurt to ask. Buy from where ever it ends up cheapest and convenient. I do.
PS. HE500 still 599€ here in Finland at several stores.. I guess we are priviledged.
