Lamb of God's Resolution, right? Listening to that with my SR60-s was like Chinese water torture. It would sound great to the majority of the guys who use stock iPod/iPhone buds but to people like us...ugh. LoG's Ashes of the Wake seemed to be made well though the guitars sound like turd. Metallica's Death Magnetic also had terrible production values- almost infamously so.

I loved the songs (esp. Unforgiven III), but listening to them wasn't a pleasant experience as the SQ left a lot to be desired.

 

Gotta love Opeth- excellent production values. Dream Theater, Mastodon (Leviathan- epic stuff), SYL, etc all have basically good quality recording, imho. Which are your faves?

 I seriously love Metalica - Metalica Album... download it from HD tracks the 24Bit flac, ull rather die. hehe!  i kinda like the new Dying Fetus-2012-Reign Supreme album.. surprisingly good for a Brutal Death metal Album.  + Sepultura - Beneath the Remains album.. whoosh that's a epic ****!

Seconding the recommendations for the GR07 (I own the GR07 MK2). The snap of drums and impact of double bass runs is exhilarating, as is the primal crunch of guitars. Old-school "sunlight studios" style death metal in particular sounds awesome on them.

For this kind of music I think the GR07s would be the best fit. I listen to hard rock and used to have these but broke them. I remember loving them though!

The last Blind Guardian album was just completely unlistenable to me when using good cans. I almost felt like I was being punished for using above average equipment. The highs were so biting and sibilant it was painful. Not to resurrect this thread pointlessly, but I wanted to follow up on my Grado SR225 issues. I got some new L-cush pads and replaced the 1/4" to 1/8" converter that I had been using. The bad buzzing is gone, mostly from the crap adapter. Listening to them quite a bit since then I still think they kind of suck. They are remarkably detailed and revealing; I can make out vocals individually during harmonized parts that I couldn't before. But this is at the cost of incredible sterility and a very thin sound character. While the guitars bite a lot harder, I personally do not care much for the way these cans color the sound. Hey OP, did you get your cans yet? Like 'em?
