Yea, I'm kinda on the same page as you are. I'm really interested in it actually as a setup for work (Got Lyr/BiFrost at home). I'm tempted to take the plunge but my common sense agrees with you.

Well I should be getting my replacement pair of HE-400s sometime in the next 2 weeks, I'll jump into the HE-400 thread with my impression of them having tried both revisions previous to this supposed third revision.

Well, it's just a crapshoot I guess.  I can purchase from Amazon, HeadDirect or Drew (Moon-Audio).  Which will I receive?  Trust me, I had them in my cart on Amazon for a while and that trigger finger was anxious, but I decided to wait...I'll see what unfolds...I need bass, mids and overall balanced spec presentation and if the new revision detracts with any of these, it would not be good....beerchug.gif

Well, sorry for getting off track OP...A-GD will spank any phone including the HD650s.  It will make them sound like the HD800s with better bass and soundstage...lol...

As far as getting the he400 and the possible revision, my guess is that it probably is a revision but it may sound as good or better than r2. If you're concerned then grab some quick and hopefully get the r2.

gL!!

Hi Matt,

I see that you own the HD650 and the LYR, how is that for a combination? Are you satisfied? I'm not too familiar with hybrids... How does it compare to tube or solid state amps?

Thanks

Well, I've owned the lyr before but sold it. basshead.gif I will own it again when the fedex man visit my house today!! After much research and advice from trusted friends here, the lyr seems to be one of the very best for the hd650. I have no doubt it will sound wonderful, but I'll report back later this weekend.

I'd love to hear what you think of the Compass 2. I had it on my short list before pulling the trigger on the lyr and bf.

I've heard a HD650 out of more expensive setups and honestly, unless you are using a tube amp you will hear (if at all) very subtle changes. And if one is expecting night and day differences from amps/ dacs, then s/he should be looking into proper EQ which can actually give substantial improvements to the sound. If you are satisfied using a HD650, you should simply invest that money into trying out a different headphone or even possibly try to "upgrade". Or, you can just keep that money for something else.
