Best Headphones to pair with Graham Slee Solo Amp

Hi,

I have about $250USD budgeted for a pair of full size headphones for home use.

I have the Graham Slee Amp Solo SRGII with the Power Supply

I currently use an old pair of Sennheiser 580 Precison cans, however the headband pad foam are reduced to nothing, and  they are looking rather old and tired after 12years of abuse.

I listen to general pop music like Sting etc, not really classical, heavy metal, or hard rock.

Can be open or closed backed, prefer an open sound more towards loudspeaker airyness if possible.

Have read Sennheiser 600 or 650HD are suited to the amp, but also read that they are incremental upgrades to the 580's and can basically sound the same.

Any suggestions either Sennheiser or other brands which may present a more involving soundstage and presence?

If budget needs to be modified to hear a significant improvement, pls help to suggest also...

Cheers,

Tom

PS also wondering what is the best source equipment to get.  Right now I have CD's and MP3's run both via a PlayStation 3.  Is running iTunes with Amarra on a MacMini plus a external DAC really the way to go? seems all a bit interim and expensive compared to buying a regular HiFi CD Player; any sidenotes on that also appreciated.

graham slee solo is a good amp, i would pair with good head phones, as long as you have hd 580 already my choice would be hifiman he 400 but it is 400 $
But for 400 $ you get something so good...biggrin.gif
