Is the golden age of Headfi over? - Page 2

yes ,yes it is

in fact , due to the recent lack of intelligent posting it has been determined by the Head-fi staff that there will be a temporary shutdown of head-fi for six weeks so the membership can spend some time thinking of something intelligent to post again or maybe even move on and get a life

thank you for your time

The Golden Age is LONG gone, it was the 1st year, we are in our 3rd year or coming up to it soon. Back in those days it really was like one big happy family and there were never any flames or useless posts or anything like that. Everyone was really smart and polite, and we also didn't have any newbies, LOL!

We will never get back to that, but that's ok... I suppose.

In my opinion, nothing much has changed since I joined last July.

The only real change I can think of is that moderation has gotten significantly stricter -- not only in regards to swearing, but in regards to everything. This is depressing (and IMHO drags down the general mood of the board) but I guess it must be necessary. There were indeed a lot of off-topic/useless posts, some (very mild) flaming, and tons of thread diversions. I thought it was kinda fun myself and lent a unique "flavor" to the board, but I guess Jude and the other moderators felt differently.

Edit -- I guess there's always a chance things will relax again as summertime approaches in the northern hemisphere... things are generally more chill during the summer on all the boards I'm on.

I blame the portable forum.

Doug, I agree with you 100%. It seems like what you stated is exactly my point. It seems to me that the title of headphone supremous was to me at least, an honor bestowed by the moderators for your wealth of knowledge, and contribution to the community. However, looks like lately its a race to get to 2000 + posts by some members. I know that growth can be good, but when it changes the foundations of what I beleive are core character traits of the community, then to me, it can be bad.

Take for the example of foul language. We all may indeed use it to some extent in personal lives, but to throw it around here, i just think is in very poor taste. Its not "cute" or "funny" Or the "use the search bar" Or the one word replys to posts that have really noting to add or say to the topic at hand, they are used to "up my count".

Doug, I have to admit, your a gentleman and a scholar, always be that way.

Golden age over??

golden age over?

shucks, i guess i missed it, since i am just now being exposed to high end audio i find it sad that due to my age and lack of funding i have missed this golden age!

but luckily, there are a few (10,000) members left, and between these fresh opinions and the wealth of the archives and eek out a suitable audio lifestyle

Those who have been here long have seen so many headphones, amps, cables etc.

for us who just learned that there was a company called "Zu" two months ago, the golden age has just begun

forgive my naitivity!

back when we were all the same group from headwize looking for a home !

We avoided growing pains because it was just a bunch of headphone geeks in need of a fix transplanted to another location

then..........

D.
Compared to other forums, this is a forum with a large membership with a tightly-knit, friendly, and helpful community.

That's why this forum was so much more addictive than any other forum I've ever joined.

Hear, Hear! Very well said Mark. With that kind of attitude I'm sure a lot of newcomers will feel quite welcome. A healthy, "Welcome to Head-Fi, please take a while and see where you fit in and can contribute in some small way."

This is Head-Fi slang for "Neil is going to work on the servers again"

Remember when the idea was that this board was going to be for Audiophiles only and headwize was going to be just for newbies? Yeah, that worked out great huh?

I disagree...

The portable / HDAP / PCDP / MDP threads that go over and over in that forum rarely, if ever spill over into the other forums...

...Its like we have our own little family in there

We must be going into the shut down incrementally. The search function was off a couple minutes ago. I suppose the TIO forum is next.
I still say that the golden age is when you decide it is.
I used to not like the growth.
I've overcome my fear of change and now I am glad to see all the new faces here.
Even Music Fantic doesn't irratate me anymore. I'm kinda getting to like him.
