Hey guys first post, so I’m looking at buying some new headphones within the next week or two and don’t know what to get. Currently have the Siberia V2 with asus xonar essence stx also have a clip on mic. My budget is $150 - $250 also might buy from amazon sence AUS is overpriced a bit, I would appreciate some help smile.gif

Heya,

1. What music types do you listen to?

2. Do you want a balanced sound, or something with more bass than normal?

3. Open air for more natural airy soundstage, or closed back for privacy/isolation?

4. What games are we talking about? Online FPS where you're listening for foot steps, or just fun games for immersion?

Suggestions without knowing anything from you: Beyer DT880, AudioTechnica AD900, Hifiman HE-300, Denon D2000, Ultrasone HFI 2400.

Very best,

x 2 Audio Technica AD900 if you are after clarity (provided you are not a bass head.  These have detailed bass, but not much bass strength).  Great for gaming and can be run very well from your STX.  Had the same pairing a while ago.

In fact, it was this pairing that drew me into Headfi and the never ending quest for great sound.

Oka so ive done abit of reading now im thinking one of these would be what im looking for:

DT990 Pro 250-Ohm ( not sure if the xonar essence stx is enough to power them)
Sennheiser HD 598
Audio Technica ATH-AD900

And i was wondering which one would be the better one out of them.

I will not recommend the AD900. With the few months I spent with the AD900 - I found that the treble was a little bit too hot. Too bright for my liking.

For an all-rounder headphone, the HD 598 is a pretty good headphone - not to mention reasonable comfort levels as the audio-technica range.
