How is audio quality on the Galaxy S3? S2 was awful

Hello, I purchased the Galaxy S2 and my opinion on it as a portable music player is that it's complete garbage.  Audio quality was bad, software was bad.

 

Is the S3 a significant upgrade in this department?  I'm actually looking to get the Galaxy Note 2 (and if history tells us anything, it's basically a larger version of the S3 as the Note 1 was a larger version of the S2) but if the s3 is the same old crap I'll go ahead and just buy the iphone 5.

While I'm not too into the S3 as a phone (screen too big, battery life) it has great sound. Best song I've heard from a phone and I've owned a lot of flagship android phones

That's good to hear.  I really want to get the Note 2 as it has a nice big screen to watch movies on as well.  Maybe I'll just wait it out and see what it's like.  I'm sure it will have the same audio quality and technology as the s3

I had the S2 and now have the S3.  There is a night and day difference between them.  I'm a bit of an audio n00b and can't always tell the difference between some of my sources and amps, even when some are 'supposed' to be better, but the S2 really was a stinker.  I had to heavily EQ it in PowerAmp to make it listenable.  The S3 on the other hand sounds excellent by default and to my ears sounds best without any EQ adjustments at all.
