Please help me out vintage users!!!! A question about connection from preamp to poweramp

I have a Pioneer Spec-1 preamplifier, and a pair of Adcom GFA-565 mono power amplifiers.

The reason why I bought the pair of power amps was to drive headphones through SPEC-1.

As you guys know, the Spec-1 doesn't have its headphone amplifier.  A power amplifier should back up the Spec-1 to drive headphones.

My rig goes:

My laptop -> dac -> preamp -> poweramp

I use output of Spec-1 to connect to power amp.  I plugged the rca cables from the spec-1 output to the input of GFA-565 power amp. Is it correct?

I got no sounds coming from the headphone jack of Spec-1......

I don't know what is wrong.....

I couldn't get the answer for this problem from AudiogoN and Audiokarma...

Please somebody helps me out.

You don't need an amp. How is the DAC connected to your Pioneer Spec-1 preamp?

I connect from the output of DAC to the input (Aux1) of Spec-1 preamp.

The output of my dac I use is balanced.  Should I use unbalanced outputs to connect with my preamp??

Yes, try the unbalance first and check if you have sound coming from the hp of the Spec-1.

Thank you for the quick response.  I will check that up.  Thanks again

By the way, the Spec-1 does not have a balance input.

I ordered a pair of rca female to xlr female cables to check that out.  Thank you anyway.  I appreciate that.

I tried unbalanced input today..... but didn't work.  Do you know any other ways to solve my problem???

Do you know if the hp out from your preamp works? You can use a different source like a cd player, connect it to a line in and check if there is output from the hp out.

Do you have the tape monitor switch engaged? If I had a dollar for every time I blew my ears out because the tape monitor was engaged and the volume was cranked, and i was fiddling trying to figure out why it wasnt working, I'd have a vintage stereo as nice as yours...nearly wink.gif
