And to create brand dominance, favorism, and mention to more prople.

They got a huge lead with 5xxx and their rebranding to AMD has also allowed for more people to be aware that they are same company

Thats what the Ati Radeon X1900 owners and the Voodo 3 and 9800gtx owners all though.

Really don't like how fast stuff is getting outdated... my galaxy s3 will be obsolete soon and I feel stupid spending $400 on a video card when a newer line will be announced in a few months.

A person could argue that if new hardware didn't come out every few months, developers would be forced to optimize their software, basically achieving the same results, but costing the consumer less money. One huge example being consoles.

That is another added point. But the thing is, the market has stagnated too much.

 

To be honest, video cards that are 3X as good as the x1900T(modified version of which is used in 360) are able to perform as well as the 360 due to that reason.We need new stuff to force that to happen.

 

A little bit of both is needed.

 

Few weeks ago. Mickey Dell announced that he would spend a billion of his money to buy back his own company and return it to being privately owned. Today, that came true.

It's a nice pipe dream. Sadly, we live in a world where (the majority of the time) the goal is to cost the consumer the most amount of money possible while still retaining them. It's almost laughable to think that the poster above thinks his/her S3 will be obsolete soon. No one is forcing anyone to buy all the latest tech, some people just choose to. People like getting shiny new toys, as thoroughly evidenced by this website.

I know no one is forcing me to buy the new product and my s3 will work just as well when it's no longer theflagship phone, but I feel like releasing the next line of video cards/phones every every year is too soon. Makes me feel stupid spending so much money on something knowing that in less than a year it will be outdated. That's why I like headphones so much more where the arguably best headphone stopped being made in 1991.

I guess this all means that their plan to make me buy their new product is working.... even if I dont need to upgrade.

I had a HD4850 for nearly five years, so I decided to splurge on a GTX 670. Being able to play games at 1080p/60fps rocks. (Or at all, in my case)

My 5770 is basically a DX11 4870 -_-

You guys complain too much. I'm using a 320M here. Almost bought an i3 rig with a 7870 Tahti LE, but the rumours of the next gen GPUs stopped me from buying anything.

I have a Macbook Pro as well. The 320M is pretty much used in MBP 13" 2010-2011
