@bowei: nope, not buying it.

My PC has two Patriot Pyro SE SSD in RAID 0 for my OS. This was buit in Nov. 2011, when this PC was built, Intel did not support TRIM on RAID. I would have to re-install my OS to enable it now that the drivers have updated to allow TRIM, but I don't want to and I don't think any significant gains will be had.

So, I have been using this PC daily for 27 months and I just ran a ATTO benchmark the other day, and it looks like I get 900MB/s reads instead of 950. Now the writes have gone down a lot to ~600MB/s but the drives are now well over 50% full, if you do some research, when sandforce drives start using compression, you are expected to lose quite a bit of performance anyway.... plus I don't do heavy writes to my C drive all that often.

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU trying to mine while I'm in class and I forgot to open my window.... Usually my temps are 77-79 C but because the window was closed I checked my temps on team viewer aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand a toasty 87 C.  Every currency has dropped so much it makes me sad.

GUESS WHAT GUYZ... taking my stupid freaking PC apart today! Total 100% CLEANING time, getting a Sapphire Dual X 7870OC, paid $175 for it... me gusta

and it's actually about a 20% increase in performance over my current 6950 Card, with less power draw [which means lower temps] q.q

so that said time to CLEAN my pc and sell my 6950!

So any one want a 6950, shipped any where in the US for $125 ;3 [I'm serious it's going on the bay Saturday]

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Not bad but still slow compared to the raw speedtest speed I did on a fibre backbone I worked on last year. About 20gb/s down and upstream, there's a screenshot of it in the Anime thread.

Pre-7 = 0 support

Windows 7 certified machines = Depends

Windows 8 certified machines = TRIM!

Everyone here sure is touchy about Sammy SSDs!  Never seen this much flame :O

Ok let's track back a bit. Who the hell still uses pre - Windows 7 operating systems? Windows XP doesn't have support TRIM natively but works with the tool box drivers manufacturers provide, if there is one for the SSD model. Anybody and everybody else that use an SSD with Windows 2000 or older deserves to be shot. Seriously.

All Windows 7 certified machines support TRIM, no depends no maybes. If it runs Windows 7, has an Intel ICH7 or newer chipset and has RST or MST installed, TRIM is supported. TRIM only wasn't support with RST 11.5 and earlier if you had pair of SSD's in RAID, this has since changed. If you run SSD's off Marvell or another chipset controller then you don't deserve your computer.

20 Gbit is like faster than my read/write speeds of my HDD's.

Yeah, that was from my workplace. We should have 1 Gbit up/down. Too bad I can't use that bandwidth to anything useful, such as torrenting or so. At home I've got it good though, 100/10 which in reality is about 100/20 with 5-10 ms ping. I use it for many useful things.

Those are good speeds. Better than the craptastic copper cable telecomm's network our country is enslaved to with a government not willing to move forward with our 2004 infrastructure.

Btw the speed was 20gigabytes per second not gigabits. ;)

Oh hey guys my 6950 is up for sale!

looking pure at the specs, and seeing as the 7870 OC shold be easier to OC than my 6950 was [I only Oc'd clock speed, never could get stable Memory ocs]

I think the 7870 should be a nice improvement. I HOPE I can PUSH it to the limit and attempt to get some Wii rerenders but I might have to wait for full 1080 P wii Emulation

Non the less check the link in my sig :3

You can sell 6950's for quite a lot of money nowadays, there within miners demand so value for ati 5850, 5870, 5970 and above to the current stuff are all highly sought after. Just flip it off ebay you'll make a decent amount.

I remember you posting awhile back about Wii Emulators!  The build where they just introduced DX11 is where I was getting a high FPS count with a 6850/955BE/4GB RAM.  I had everything max (Maybe the AA was down just a notch from max), few speedhacks if I recall correctly, and had iz3d anaglyph on top of the dx9 plugin.  Was getting over 60FPS and had to have the limiter on lol.

Games I ran on Dolphin:  SSBB, Zelda TP, TvC Ultimate.

Didn't you also mention selling your 6950 for $100 around that time ;)

I hope you enjoy your new card!  My brother just got his R9 270 Windforce and it runs very nice.  I would imagine your 7870 is faster, and you should definitely be able to do some serious Wii emulation haha

I would think a R9 270 Windforce would be technically faster.

The R9 270's are under core clocked but over-mem clocked 7870's with better thermal management features, not to mention the cooling on the Windforce

Not sure if Dual X is better than Windforce, and on specific cards though.

My rebates for my 7870's came in a few weeks ago :gs1000smile: I got $60 back and in the bank

I need to give Apple support a round of applause. I have always heard good things about them but never really experienced it. I fix my own schiit, so that is to be expected.

But alas, finally my poor MBP no longer worked.

Called them the night before. I was about 3 years out of warranty but one word about my problem and BOOM, no fee required. I spent 40 m talking with the helpful gentleman. Alas, every tip he recommended, I had already done as I googled the **** out of everything.

I finally relented and asked to order my specific laptops original restore disk. I left it at home and heard that Apple replaces it for free but charges a S&H fee and it will take a week. Whatever. I ask for it, HE WAIVES the charge, and then guess what

less than 24 hours later, using next uber day FedEx. My DVD is here..

OMFG....PRAISE THE LAWD!

I'm sure the people on this thread are tired of hearing this...but I got my 7870 GHz for $108 each (new) so...I'll pass

$108 after rebate is a pretty good price. But they dropped down to $90 during the Black Friday sale late last year.
