Anyone able to recommend a sound card for the V-Moda M-100s?
Yo, best mouse I've ever felt, great for gaming and SUPER comfy, using my computer is much nicer on my hands not, has 2 extra buttons and a dpi switcher button for only $14 WITH PRIME SUPPORT, I added omrons from a broken razer and I gotta admit, it's god tier now!

I also agree with mark, flash is trash.
Woah where'd you get my name? Actually I know where but where did you get my viewpoint on flash?!?!?

Yazen: Thank you for the advice. I'm just wondering as I'm going to be using this headset for competetive PC gaming AND music, would a USB DAC provide me with at least decent positional audio while improving the sound quality? Positional audio is an important feature to me, and I'm just not sure what having a DAC entails, I previously thought that it limited the headset to stereo instead of surround sound.

Also, are there anymore suggestions you have for USB DACs, so I can weigh the options? Thanks!

Gopanthersgo1: whoa I just saw that mouse today but couldn't find the name! Since it's so cheap I'd be interested in picking it up for the novelty of it, as well as how comfortable it looks..

Well, if you count L/R as positional audio, the M-100 is decent, though my M-80s are pretty cramped in my terms. Not sure if you can get a 5.1/7.1 card and use that though, but it's possible.
BTW, you're welcome. Lol.
EDIT: I'm still pretty nooby in terms of audiophilia, but how much you willing to spend for a DAC?

Oh yeah I seriously can't praise it enough, I use it for everything and it's just so natural after you've used it for about 2 or 3 days, within the first 15-30 minutes you get the hang of it but as you have it it just becomes so natural and smooth and nice, not to mention the low dpi being used by most hardcore players anyways to increase accuracy, and note this is coming from a 6400dpi mouse I ran at max! biggrin.gif

I'm willing to spend in like the 100-150 range for a full audio set-up. (not including the headphones of course). I just learned of Razer Surround 7.1 for positional audio in stereo headphones. Could I use this software in conjunction with a USB DAC and still achieve the positional audio that Razer Surround 7.1 provides, or would I need something other than a DAC?

Maybe a FiiO E17 + some surround sound thingie such as a USB card or program for a 7.1(whats that woooorrrddd... AH!) algorithm.

So if I'm understanding this correctly, I can do this

Razer Surround 7.1 -> FiiO E17 -> V-Moda M-100

..and I will be able to have positional audio, (for more than just left/right) as well as enhanced sound quality for music and gaming on my PC? Does anyone know whether it is simple to toggle the Razer Surround on and off, or if music will sound even better with it enabled?

There are plenty of USB DACs to choose from.  Most gaming products include special software to boost important frequencies and expand soundstaging.

USB DACs tend to be of higher quality, have less interference, however do not usually include any gaming "enhancements".

You probably want anything that does not sound "thick" coupled with the M100.  You should look at options from Schiit as well.  The Magni/Modi, and o2/odac should be great options.  You could also look at the Aune T1, as from experience its really good as well.  You can find them cheaper on the type of sites we are not allowed to mention on Head-Fi.  (Please read the rules section to get an idea haha)

I recommend the Musiland 02 US because it is the cheapest option, and if you need more in your audio, you'll be able to use it as a transport for standalone DACs/Amps with optical.  It will probably tame the M100 a little, especially if you are coming from one of those fauncee'  HP/beats notebooks. :p

As for enhancements I am sure researching on Google will be more fruitful than my own experiences.  All I could come up with was DFX, but I personally do not use enhancements.  The Musiland and AD700 were a killer combination before I registered on Head-Fi, and I paid under $200 for both.

EDIT:  Schiit, Aune, etc are easier to sell.  Extra thought to consider.  I originally listed my 02 US on Head-Fi, but never had any buyers.  Its going to fit nicely in the MAME cabinet I keep putting off :@

I'm not sure, but it's a maybe, since your PC is processing the audio to 7.1, then it goes through the FiiO, so you may have to do a bit of research for that, or maybe ask others on this thread. Sorry I couldn't help with everything.

The whole "virtual surround sound" is a total joke.  that razer thing is most likely a total waste of money with the v modas unless each side had multiple drivers.

And I'm not using XMP I'm just now reading into it and messing with timings and all that stuff seems like a nightmare to me.

EDIT: Oh god I just for the first time heard about people wanting "sleeper" PCs like a sleeper car that looks like a normal stock grocery getter on the outside but has like 500hp.... this just seems stupid with pcs.  "Check out my computer bro, dell case with sli 780s and an i7 4999999999999k, all water cooled of course. Hell of sleeper pc, bro" *snorts* pls no

Disagree, virtual surround is actually very effective for competitive play. It generally adds echos and other stuff to the sound to help with positioning, it's not there to improve sound quality or to make things sound more correct.

The only people I've seen into sleeper PCs are people living in dorms and worried about theft, for nostalgia sake I like the idea too. Makes me wonder if I could do anything with the Windows 95 computer I grew up with.

Anyway, I just placed the order for my new coolers. Passive Arctic Cooler for the 7770 and Akasa Venom for the CPU. I also got some of those prolimatech magnetic fan mounts, so I'm going to have some fun experimenting with moving the fans around and sticking them places where there aren't any holes. devil_face.gif You know, like on the GPU cooler or in front of the drive cages. Limitless possibilities.

Oh yay (sarcastic tone), more unnecessary upgrades. Now we can pay 3 times more for motherboards and RAM and have negligible performance differences. (If you use dedicated graphics. This assumption is based on what I use my PC for mainly: gaming)

I can reach it just fine. You must have small hands.
