4k will be amazing for those who actually do work on their computer, and not just brag to their mates about framerates.

I don't see any downsides at all, monitor prices come down, game devs will use better assets, and hardware will play catch up. What's not to love?

@tang

I heard the Dell 28" would come in under $1k, I don't really want to downgrade in size, but considering the Dell 32" is somewhere north of $3k, I'll just have to settle for a 28"...or two. :p

sure they're useful for PS and they make text easier to read..... if you're leaning in 10 inches from the screen.

There's some equation some where that lets you calculate the minimum distance you can be from any display with out seeing the pixel structure, I can't find it though.  I've never seen a 4k screen in person but I really doubt the difference would justify the huge price tag and performance hit unless I was leaning in close to it and squinting.  There are a ton of articles about how much work will need to be done with not only hw but video codecs and all that schiit too.

What's this about more space? you mean having a 1080p movie only take up 1/4th of your screen?

You know you are in America when you go home for break, and perform a speed test and get 55Mb/s down and 2Mb/s up...yep. MURICA..screw upload speeds. We don't need dem secret murican documents being uploaded online.

Srsly. I use all the space on my current 1600p screen so more space really would be nice.

1440p is nice for documents, cannot imagine 1600p...  Really want a new monitor now >.>

EDIT: Got the D5 for my cnc water cooling project that I'm hopefully starting soon and I'm starting to realize how over kill it is even though the cpu design is pretty restrictive.  if any one with a reference 7970 block could dimension the face of it and the heights of everything you'd get a free virtual pat on the back.

TV is not totally pointless.  Like all developing technologies, 4k is a pretty big tradeoff for everyone.  You can expect cinematographers to eventually shoot in 8k for 4k masters, oh the hardware...  Its really taxing for everyone involved.  Maybe in this point in time it is useless, but that's what people wanted you to think about 1080p

4K ultimately hurts the margins of developers of 4k content and hardware, especially during introduction.  Useless for them, but not for us consumers.  You're on head-fi, you should know better lol

I've seen the Sony 4K TV at Fry's Electronics awhile back. Looks yummy.

Ah, Comcast Blast speeds?  I don't upload as much as I used to so I'm not really missing the cable companies skimping, but it would be nice to have in case I needed it.

Pshh you think that's bad? I get 2Mbps max down and then I could get in my car, drive 10 miles and get 28mbps down on my phone....

*sigh*, my speeds are 18Mbit/s / 2Mbit/s on DSL.  My phone gets 25/15 on T-Mobile with a Verizon Lumia 822.  (I can imagine faster speeds with an AWS capable phone)

Eventually we are going to need higher bandwidth.  ISPs are greedier than Apple!

Yeah whatever speed test:

Funny how when I download games from origin/steam/anywhere I never get more than 1.8mb/s.

Notice how frontier only has 2 stars? They deserve zero, internet decides to stop working at least once per week : /

That sounds about right, 1.8MB/s is 14.4Mb/s, close enough.

With some of the ISPs here Speedtest is marked a priority traffic and uncapped.

Kulacom Jordan is one of those ISPs.  They promise unlimited bandwidth and no throttling with 2Mbps...  2Mbps..................  Its closer to dial-up on everything but speedtest lol.  speedtest would report 5-10Mbps lol

What's even worse is that they would not let anyone open external ports (Even though there is options in their router/modem).  They would lie and try to convince me that it was of my own error.

Jordan has the worst ISP service in the world, really.  Be better off going to North Korea >.>

This is what happens when the government sells all their telecom to private companies

Yep it's like android phone manufactures that increase clock speeds when you run bench marking software (no joke that happened with like 90% of the manufactures)

Downloading the Day Z stand alone right now, only 5gb! a pretty steady 1.6mbp/s down with 1.8 peak.

EDIT: OH SCHIIT 1337th post I'm so leet.
