Edit: yep I made sure to use a small amount in a line across the dye.

I tested them at stock (925/1375 @ 1168mv).

84C is nothing to be worried about, I'd just forget about it. wink.gif

AMD OC'ed their FX-4 to over 8Ghz and they dumped liquid helium over it. Wouldn't that freeze the CPU? I mean, they said it was running at very much below zero.

Better find a validity link or something, because that sounds like bull crap :D

Although I know when you BREAK a hardrive the best way to recover your data is to freeze it, the problem is when it thaws and the hardware expands again it's ruined... I would think that would apply to a processor as well.

Freeze the HD only as a LAST DITCH effort to get data back... biggrin.gif

exactly because after you freeze it, it's destroyed

makes me wonder how that cpu would fare after it comes up to temp

So, I have to say that the cheapo laptop I got is actually quite good!

Specs:

AMD Quad-Core Processor A8-4500M

6GB DDR3 Memory,
750GB HDD
15.6" 16:9 HD LED LCD,
AMD Radeon HD 7640G Graphics
DVD-SuperMulti DL drive,
Wireless,
HD Webcam
Windows 8 64-bit

I got it for $275, already installed Steam with all of my games. Tried playing Ridge Racer Unbounded (plays very well), Tomb Raider (surprisingly smooth), and a couple of others. Have to install Fraps to see how many FPS I'm getting but it should be high enough because I'm not really detecting too many skipped frames!

The only thing I miss from my netbook... Battery...

Wow, this thing eats the battery in a few hours... I guess with just normal browsing, music listening, etc. it drains in like 4 hours or so. Wonder if they have 9-cell batteries for these lappys...

It was liquid nitrogen, not helium:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UKN4VMOenNM

A CPU has no moving parts and is entirely enclosed, unlike a harddrive.  They're also made out of ceramics, silicone, and metals that are far more temperature resistant than a harddrive with a fragile disk.  AMD is also only doing this as a one time demonstration sort of thing.  If you do something like this regularly you'd probably end up breaking the CPU due to stress fractures.  Not that it would be practical at all, since AMD was literally just dumping the nitrogen on the CPU and there was no sort of sustainable loop or anything like that.

Yea I figured it would have to have some negative effect making it a little impratical. But the Future might hold cpus strong enough to handle liquid Nitro Cooling

Shouldn't future CPUs be more efficient?  God help us all, picture idiots trying to cool their smartphones with liquid nitrogen.

LOL

Yeah, this is one of those things that started in the US and spread out like fire.  I remember 2011 in Jordan, most people were on BlackBerry/Nokia/Ericsson.  SMS was common method of communication, but people were not stuck on their smart device 24/7...

Hell, I go back and everyone is using GS4s/NoteII.

Smartphones are the new dumbphones.  I am using my Nokia 808, offline maps and a 41MP sensor.  The 808 does a lot more than any of my other devices.  Sure it is missing instagram, but why would I even care?  I can transmit radio frequencies, turning any old FM radio into a wireless audio speaker biggrin.gif

Wouldn't exposure to liquid nitrogen require amputation?  I'd like to see them texting with their tongues..
