Which sound better the Sennheiser Momentum Over Ear or the Sennheiser HD8DJ?

wow the over ear momentums sound amazing. been a/bing them with their little brothers the on ears. the on ears are more "fun" sounding and it appears that the on ears actually have the same or even wider sound stage than their older brothers but id have to say the over ears are almost perfect. they reproduce anything and everything i threw at them so far in staggering detail and naturalness (if thats even a word) and theres enough bass in there to keep things interesting (it is north of neutral)

Which do you prefer more The Sennheiser Momentum over ear, V Moda M100 or V Moda XS?

its only my first day with the over ear momentums, so take everything i say here with a grain of salt (it might just be "new toy" fever)

but i actually like the momentums more than either vmodas if i had to rank it it would be momentum> m100> xs just in terms of sound only ( i no longer have the m100s or the xs with me now so this just by memory)

the xs and the momentums both have a more balenced sound sig but neither are considered perfectly neutral for me both have a bass boost. a very similar one on the FR graph but what i hear is different. i find the momentums having a tighter bass and less punchy and in your face that the xs seem to have. the treble the momentums easily best the xs with far more clarity and detail while being just as smooth as the xs. midrange id say the xs edges out the momentums just a bit though just purely on the beautiful vocals (female especially) but the momentums are in no way lagging behind, but overall the mids are more neutral not favoring vocals over instruments.

the m100s are a completely different beast, its a very v shaped response and very tastefully done imo. i still miss it to this day. the bass is much more than the momentums. but still very tight but does seem to flood into the mids more often than the momentums. id say the treble is a draw. the m100s have more sparkly treble but friendly. while the momentums have a more delicate laid back treble while being very articulate ( i wish for a bit more sparkle though). midrange both are articulate but the m100s as many stated are laid back (if you like that its very competent midrange) i personally like my mids either neutral and natural or if forward if its as tastefully done with the xs.

but the thing is with the m100s i find that the stock earpads are just not deep enough (my right ear sticks out a bit more> left) yea i'm weird like that. but oddly both the m100s and the momentums fit me in terms of size, which doesn't seem common on head fi =(. the momentum's earcups are deeper, right now my right ear is either just grazing the surface of the fabric over the driver or not touching it at all. (so very pleasant the over ears fit me)

i'll have to give them more time to listen to verify everything above. but thats my initial impressions! hope that helps! but what the m100s have over the momentums is the xl pads so if your ears don't fit you can grab the xl pads and i heard that their insanely comfortable so it seems like the thing to do anyway.

thats a good question! i think the original question should be clarified!

if its asking if the earcups rotate like the amperiors/hd25  or the beats mixrs (like dj on ear listening= nope!

but i meant that they rotate on an axis like on a ball joint so it conforms to the person's head! ala the the hate to use another beats reference but the beats solos or the beats studios

like a bidirectional earcup i mean

Today i received sennheiser momentum

I compared them to m50 and m50  seems to be louder at the same volume level.

99dB vs 110dB.

Did i receive a deffective pair of momentum?

Did you use the remote cable?

If so, try the other cable, that might make a difference.

I tried both cables.no difference. Is there any problem with the remote cable? Should momentum sound much louder than m50 ?

I bought these on good faith. Tyll appeared to be liking them quite a bit.

I think these cans look nice, but the vocals are horribly colored.

Since there are other factors to consider that lie outside of common sense (like both companies might measure their headphones in different ways/environments) it is entirely possible that the headphone can be quieter than another with inverse measurements.

But if someone has a more scientific answer I would like to hear it, or if indeed the headphone is faulty (which I doubt).
