Thanks for the response, if they block out noise on Plane that's good enough for me.

How is the quality of the cable? Since its kind of custom made, where you have to turn it in, you cant just use any cable you want. Does it break easily? Im thinking of the cable with remote and mic on it.

I've just had a drive out to a local john lewis(uk high street store) and tried these out. Perfect way to try them because they were playing music on one of the near by docking stations. I thought they blocked out the noise ok and the cups did fit around my big ears which surprised me after reading the thread...... But , I was disappointed with the SQ. There was nothing wrong with it other than the tilt toward bass, I am not used to that coming from my other phones and I found it a bit much . I really wanted to walk away with them but it wasn't meant to be. Looks like I will continue my hunt for some nice full size portables. Any suggestions?

If the slight emphasis on bass isn't quite your thing, I would suggest the Sony MDR-1R or the Bang & Ofufsen Beoplay H6.

Just imo i wouldnt recommend the sony mdr 1r if he found the momentum to have too much bass. The mdr 1r has a lot more midbass, but a more foward midrange. Its a very attractive design but prob not for him. It doesnt isolate particularly well.

Thanks Tom I will take that into consideration. I've lived on Very neutral diet over that last 2 years so I've become very fussy!!! Damn you HD800!

The extra mid-bass doesn't protrude as much as the mids. "a lot more midbass" is a little exaggerated IMO.

But it's always better to just give it a listen and decide for yourself. I'm sure we can all agree that you'll be tempted by it's comfort factor alone.

Can anyone tell me how do they compare to the HE-400?

Their bass and lower mids sound pretty bloated in comparison to the HE-400, but the upper mids and treble strike a nice balance compared to the HE-400.

Just out of curiosity, why are you trying to compare a Momentum to an HE-400? They are very different headphones for very different uses.

It's because I traded a DAP that I wasn't using on a Momentum and I already have a HE-400 on the way.. So I wanted to know what to expect from them in comparison, as it can take a while to arrive...

I think Sennheiser should learn from V-MODA.

Do you know how long it took for V-moda to bring out the x-large pad?

Just curious. I don't expect Sennheiser to do it, and they certainly havn't shown any sign of it in the past 14/15 months since the Momentum has been around.

The only problem is that the Momentum earpad is already fully vented on the inside, and if it gets any shallower, that will radically affect sound and comfort (and I mean that in a bad way ;)).

They would have to create an earpad that actually goes out further than it's current circumference, which would look ugly. I don't think Senn is prepared to do that. Would be hilarious if they did though... but then people wouldn't shut up about how ugly they look :D

Then Sennheiser has only one course of action remaining, an ear shrinking kit.:D
