Sennheiser MOMENTUM Review - Page 188

Hi everyone,

Just want to share that we've launched the MOMENTUM Ivory at #CES2014. Here's the press release:

Gaining MOMENTUM
Sennheiser expands acclaimed headphone range with the launch of MOMENTUM Ivory

Las Vegas, 7 January 2014 – At CES 2014 in Las Vegas, the expansion of Sennheiser’s acclaimed headphone range is gaining pace with the launch of the new MOMENTUM Ivory. Joining the classic Brown and Black editions, the new MOMENTUM family member features ivory-coloured ear cups, richly offset with a tan leather headband and the iconic stainless steel headband slider. The lighter shade adds a new dimension to the pure, clean aesthetics of the MOMENTUM range.

Design for the senses – quality for individualists

Crafted from the finest materials, the MOMENTUM Ivory fuses understate design with uncompromising sound performance. An elegant headband slider of brushed stainless steel provides maximum comfort and adjustability; while the headband and the ear cups worked from soft and supple leather of the finest quality ensure ultimate wearing comfort. With the new colour version, Sennheiser reimagines its clean design in a lighter tone.

Beneath its luxurious exterior, the MOMENTUM Ivory embodies a refusal to compromise on sound quality. Audio specialist Sennheiser has taken technologies from its high-end headphone range to ensure a natural, authentic and richly detailed sound.

Perfect combination of sound and style
“The MOMENTUM family of headphones is going from strength to strength with the launch of this new edition of the MOMENTUM and the seven colours now available in the compact MOMENTUM On-Ear range,” said Magdalene Tan, Product Manager at Sennheiser Consumer Electronics. “We have sought to achieve something new in the world of headphones by combining uncompromising sound quality with the finest materials, and a distinct, pure design. We’ve reimagined the concept of a contemporary, urban style with a classic, timeless feel.” A unique, uncompromising approach that has proved successful with both critics and discerning music lovers alike.

Smarter design for smart devices

The MOMENTUM Ivory includes a single-sided detachable cable with convenient in-line remote and microphone for Apple iDevices, for easy control of music playback and to make and receive calls on the go.

The MOMENTUM Ivory will be available through selected Sennheiser sales partners from January 2014.

I'm not aware if new colour variants of the MOMENTUM will be released but I'll definitely pass on your feedback to the team!

Is it just me or does the Momentum's sound beautifully neutral when you go outside thanks to the ambient noise reducing some of its bass naturally?

If you are referring to the on ears, IMO, not a chance.

And if it's about the over-ear model, TOTALLY agree.

And if gets to be a real racket out there a Bose QC15 starts to sound really good in comparison. In a train or noisy bus, you can't really appreciate the fine qualities of an open back or a closed back where the isolation may not be enough.

Man, I go away for several months and everyone is still talking about Momentum around here? This thread had one of the highest update counts in my subscription. These things must be selling like hotcakes (why have hotcakes always been so popular?). Anyways, maybe I'll pick up and actually keep a pair soon. My MDR-1R, although still great, is getting kinda stale.

I feel the Momentum (normal over ear) sounds noticeably better than the MDR 1-R in terms of resolution and tonal balance (flatter, less humpty dumpty) when I compared them at the shop.

I took a pair of MDR 1-R's home for a week and returned them for one reason. The very low end of the sub bass was not there. The Momentum's around ears did not disappoint, so they remained.

if you are talking about bass extension I personally felt that the AKG k550 & the m100s had better bass extension compared to the Momentums.

edit: the mdr-1rs seem to have like a mid-bass boost, so maybe that's why you feel that way. but i didn't particularly feel like the momentum's bass was anything special.

Will they ever sell a bigger replaceable ear cup for Momentum Overear?

Oh jeez, guys. My comments were meant as a joke and to illustrate this thread was still popular. Wasn't trying to reopen the 1R vs Momentum argument. Everyone already know the 1R is just better anyways. :veryevil:
