I can totally understand if someone does not like the signature.

You should try the DT1350...it's not as comfortable, but the bass might be more to your liking,

Not really in the market for portable cans. They were there in the shop so I tried them on. DT1350 sounds better to my ears though. Shame they're not so comfortable.

The impression remains: I found them disappointing.

The Momentum is as high-end as it gets right now for portable applications. Surprising that you found them disappointing as I find them relatively similar to my LCD-2 (which you also own I noticed). A notch more recessed highs and a notch more prominent bass, but overall they definitely share the same DNA. The LCD-2 is definitely better but keeping in mind the Momentum is closed and a lot cheaper, my only gripes with them are the sometimes slightly boomy bass and long-term comfort due to the small earcups.

Just leaving this here, On ear vs standard Momentum.

Just picked up some Momentums....would they benefit from amping or a DAC at all? I'm currently running them through a MBP.

I use them right out of my iPad or iPhone. I usually find any sonic improvements not worth the lack of portability with an LOD + portable amp.

I did notice slight improvement in resolution and tightness in bass when I use Audio Engine D1 outof my MBP.
However, for portable use, I just plug them direct from my AK120.

Just had Best Buy price match Rakuten.com for $229, in addition they also gave me a $35 gift card.  Not a bad dealbiggrin.gif.  If you want to get one just have BB price match it, can't get it new any cheaper I think.

I don't  know how I feel about the sound yet, I think my expectations may be a bit higher than it should, having previously owned the HD580( same driver as HD600) which it is supposed to sound similar to. At zero hours the soundstage is a bit congested and the sound clarity isn't on par with my previously owned DT1350.  Hopefully some burn in will sharpen the sound a bit more.  Running it off the HP-P1 amp/dac.

Did you get the full size Momentum for the Momentum On-Ear price?  I need to go to your BestBuy and get that deal because my BestBuy would tell me to fuhgeddabouditangry_face.gif

It's this one. http://www.rakuten.com/prod/505796-momentum-on-ear-brown/252527719.html.  I didn't know there were multiple versions, last I remembered there was only one. I'll check it when I get home.

Wrong picture to go with the phones, so if they didn't check the UPC you lucked out if they gave you the over ear.

(PS that is the on ear version)

This is indeed the on-ear model.  They have the over-ear picture though.  Congrats anyway, definitely a sweet price!
