looking for a good pair of closed design headphone

Thread Starter
Who makes the best closed design headphone and what models by those companies would you direct me to? I would like a very efficient headphone with low impendence (under 100 ohms) and high spl(100db or more).

[MINIRANT]The best sounding closed headphones have extremely high impedance (over 4700 ohms) and extremely low spl (60db or less).[/MINIRANT]

That mini-rant aside, the best headphones with the low impedance and high spl characteristics that you desire is the Beyerdynamic DT250-80 headphones - or if you prefer tiny, canalphone/earplug-type headphones, either the Etymotic ER-4P (the ER-4S sounds better, but may not meet your requirements) or the new ER-6. Hope this helps.

BeyerDynamic DT 250-80's are what I'd recommend. They play plenty loud straight out of a portable device's jack, and also happen to sound amazing!

As you've probably read in these threads, the Sony V6's/7506's come highly recommended... and with good reason, they're very nice. Search the formal review archives to see which may better suit your needs.

Good luck with your search!

Don't know if the 250-80s will manage 100db spl from a portable device, doesn't sound like it to me - but they do reach a comfortable volume level.

I'd still recommend them though
