Apple is so much smarter than these two sites.

Ex... Apple is giving them away for free. There is nothing these two sites can do to prevent that. People will like them. People will buy them. And we can all bet the farm that eBay will sell the shiza out of these... Worthless (Joking) EarPods.

They will be very successful. Period.

Just my opinion, Jim

no doubt they'll be successful, that doesn't mean they're good though

They will be good enough that I will purchase about 4 or 5 sets before the Next Gen comes out.

God that was a crappy review.  I couldn't make it through the whole thing.  He repeated the "pushing sound directly into your ears" line at least 15 times throughout the part I actually watched.

Well, I have returned from my local apple store.  They just got the earpods in stock this morning, so I was one of the first to buy a pair.  And yes...I put out the 29 bucks to get them separate from any of the iproducts to follow.  I won't be getting the iphone 5 and most likely won't be getting the nano or touch.  Possibly the nano.

I have always given all my apple earbuds to my kids.  They love them because they are trendy and all the kids in school have them.  Personally I never really liked them.  Just some pretty horrific sound IMO.  I have also never been able to keep them (or any earbud for that matter) in my ears without the use of foamies.  So, these looked like something that might stick without the old foamies.

Well I was sadly disappointed to find that these didn't stay too well in my ears either.  Better than before, but they are loose and are one head tilt away from falling out.  They are better than before, but the house is very slippery and I guess I just have a shallow ear canal.  So when I got home, I grabbed a pair of foamies and tried them on, even over the strange shape.  Voila!!  Perfect fit!  I haven't cut out a hole for the front speaker or the side speakers yet.  The bass ports remain open.

It took about 2 notes to discover that these wipe the floor with the original apple earbuds!  I have owned so many earbuds and the ones I currently use the most are the PK2, PK3 and the Bose IE2.  Personally I think these kick the PK3's ass.  They do not have near the soundstage of the PK2.  But then again I have not heard an earbud yet that can size up to the soundstange of the PK2.  And that included my old PK1 well amped.  The bass of these earpods, with the foamies on, reminds me of the bass in the IE2.  But I think the mids on the earpod are superior to the IE2 by quite a margin.

You're not going to get the best treble extension with these.  Not to say that it's bad...but they do lack a little sizzle.  I am currently listening to Halestorms I Get Off.  The bass is pretty slamming for an earbud.  Granted I have these plugged into my walkman, and I do use EQ with elevated bass.  I would have to say that the bass is so strong because the foamies are providing a very good seal.

They do provide a good deal of detail.  When listening to Page and Plant Unledded, "The Rain Song" the orchestra comes through nicely.  I wouldn't expect the kind of detail that you're getting out of a headphone like the VModa M80, but for a sub 30 dollar earbud, I'd say it ranks very high.  Cost to performance ratio is quite good.  I gotta give it up to Apple on this one.  I am really hoping that the bass doesn't disappear as these get more hours on the drivers.  It's very satisfying to me.  But PLEASE KEEP IN MIND...THESE ARE MY VIEWS AND MY OPINIONS BASED ON MY HEARING AND THE WAY I LIKE MUSIC TO SOUND.  MY OPINIONS WILL NOT BE SHARED 100 PERCENT ACROSS THE BOARD - GOOD OR BAD.

I am going to plug these things into my Philips GoGear Vibe in a little bit.  The Fullsound will probably rattle my brain!!!

Quite.

Popularity is no measure of quality.

Weren't you criticizing people for judging before hearing? Isn't that what you're doing here?

Not sure what part about my statement is criticism?

I will honestly purchase 4 or 5 sets.

I use them when performing mobile service.

PS They could sound like angels or devils... It will not matter to me, they are a great tool.

You are presuming they will be 'useful' or 'usable' for 'performing mobile services' even before trying them out

You are presuming sound quality aside, they will be 'great tools', even before trying them out

You said you will buy 4/5 sets because you presumed them to be 'good enough', even before trying them out

People on this forum said these might not sound well before trying them out and you 'criticised' (think the word Sinocelt is looking for is 'challenged') them.

Help Me Help You... Answering your points below.

I know they will be useful. Based on the most recent Apple three button remote set I am currently using, and find useful.

I know they will be great tools based on my current experiences. As long as I can hear you when you call for service. They will be a great tool.

I will purchase 4 or 5 sets based on my own short comings when handling them in a field environment.

Is that what they said? They might not sound good? I think you might have misunderstood their judgment of the sound of a product before listening to it.

I will finally say this:

We as an Audiophile based forum should not judge any audio products sound before listening to it.

I am making my judgments based on past usage (the mechanicals) of a Great Product and not its sound signature. As I have already stated... Sound Signature in this circumstance/situation does not matter to me.

1. The button remote set is actually redesigned to be larger. You have to use it before judging its usability.

2. You haven't used the EarPods during these 'current experiences'. You're assuming things like fit that can affect the ability to 'hear [others] when [they] call for service'.

3. That wasn't what you said about buying 4/5 of them. You said "They will be good enough that I will purchase about 4 or 5 sets before the Next Gen comes out", i.e. your decision to purchase multiple EarPods is at least partially due to the 'sufficient goodness' of the product, which you're assuming.

4. You're judging based on past usage but the 'mechanicals' have since changed.

Finally, I shall say this:

Heed your own advice. The virtue of not judging a book by its cover is not limited to audio products, even if this is primarily an audio-based forum.

Poor Lou...

They will serve my purposes very well.

What more can I say to you?

Have a good one, Jim

You should not say prematurely they will serve your purposes very well if you haven't actually used them, like how the people should not judge prematurely the SQ of these Pods.

I can, have, and will judge the mechanicals of this device based on my common sense.

But... No One can judge the Sound Sig until they have heard it.

Is that simple enough for you?

Jim
