If you had $500... Would you get the RS-2?

I would buy them.  I couldn't find them in Edmonton when I went down there to buy a pair of headphones in the 5-600 dollar range.  I tried the Hifiman he400 and they were not to my taste at all.  Possibly they do genres of music I do not listen to heavily better then the guitar rock I like but they just couldn't hold a candle to the Grados when I was testing them out.

Have both RS2i and HE-400 - RS2i are magic for old school, guitar/rock type music (amazing mids). HE-400 are a better over all headphone - suit nearly every genre. Would probably go with HE-400 w/ velours.

Hang on a sec, if the RS-2 wasn't there when you went to buy headphones, which Grados did you try?

If you love your Grado/Alessandro you'll love the RS2 even more as it brings quite a bit more to the table. Maybe sell the lower ends to offset cost?
I'm not sure how important it is to buy BNIB from a physical retailer, but for that kind of money you are within reach of a used RS1 or HF2 in the FS section. On the other hand Malveux gives pretty good advice.
