May in fact be something in your source chain. Though I do occasionally notice what I believe to be overdrive distortion with the 65th's, it's much less so than my old K701. I also notice it's more track dependent than pure volume level dependent. The max input power of the x70x series is 200mw, which when paired to the lower than average efficiency can cause that occaisional overdrive, but with the 65th it's less noticeable and not a deal breaker for me given everything else it does right.
That being said, I tested the above track with this chain: Schiit Modi > Audio-GD SA-31 > K702 65th and noticed no such distortion. It could be your amp clipping. I'm using MLE's old SA-31 and nothing short of an HE-6 is going to make this amp clip.
Thanks guys. Figured it was youtube compression but if you are not hearing it you might be right. Time to start amp/dac shopping. lol. I wanted a new amp any ways. My partner tried my DT990pros as I was listening to my Annies and must have decided they were his and walked away with them. He is complaining it isn't loud enough off his ipad. I may have to look at the Compass2 because I can actually use all those inputs. I would probably get the dual WM8741 though because I want the added warmth on my phone and computer. Don't need it on the mixamp though. The Compass 2 would be my end game as far as an amp. Any other suggestions? Has to be low impedance headphone output because I want to run the CALs and possibly the X1s down the road.
Sorry this is an Annies thread not an amp thread.
The Annies are really filling out. I don't know what my beliefs are but the bass has been filling out nicely and I am enjoying them more every day. I did test the CALs on that song and the bass actually scared me because I had grown so used to the Annnies. The Annies and CALs continue to shock me everyday. :)
