unfortunately, pads are starting to cost a really silly amount for what goes into them.

You could sell them and buy a new unit. As mentioned the K612 is going for around $150 now, which is a pretty good price. Also you could get a Q701 for about $180 new, or sometimes amazon has "open box" returns which usually are in very good condition. Sometimes people get brand new headphones with a damaged box. Those usually run in the $130-$150 range.

Do you have an early production or late production K702 anniversary?
How do you know which is which?

Amazon have them for sale, albeit twice the price of the vanilla K702...

The later version is more like the K712, so I'd compare to that for price.

My up 1000 serial number is the older pads, my 2000+ number is the newer ones. I'd guess you'll get the newer pads if you buy new.

They're made in Austria so you pay 50% of the total price to get the "unique serial number" and the "made in Austria"

Sorry I'm not sure what you're asking here.

Gel pads? thats news to me... I don't think so. The pads are of a different shape between old AE and 712/newer AE though, but still both memory foam as far as I know.

Yes , K712 got gel pads which are much softer and more comfortable than the regular memory foam. So it seems that K712 is not exact re-badge of AE.

This is true for earliers K702 ANV , the laters have the same pad as K712 Pro .

Brought 2 pairs of Anniversary's to a meet and compared the later ones with the K712. Same pads. The early anniversary pads are softer and more memory foam like.

Seems like a bit of an immaterial discussion, as the early pads were pretty quickly phased out and most AE have newer pads.
