Well, took the two together and did a comparison. I think there is more going on with the K702.65 than just the pads. The Q701 w/ anniversary pads, do sound a little different.

Could be that the outer grill and foam behind it on the Q701 that is causing the tiny difference..if there even is one.

The Anniversary grill does look a bit more open. Could say it's placebo, but hard to tell for sure.

I prefer Q701 + Annie pads with no foam.

I'm trying to figure it out. with the foam and such If anything, there are very subtle changes overall.

The newer AKG K702 "bumpless" edition are now made in China .

In the headband there is a little sticker "made in PRC" , and no more the print "Made in Austria" on the cup .

To be honest, I think it's not a good idea to buy Akg headphones that are made in China. I've heard about so many problems with chinese Akg K242/240mk/270/271MK (something wrond with the plastic) but when they made them in Austria those headphones were some kind of reference headphones in terms of durability.

At touch they don't seam different than my previous K702 , and sound the same . But i am bit bothered by the "made in china" .

Thats why you only buy from authorized dealers.

Super interesting! So they shifted production to China, and removed the bumps. What an interesting trade-off.

Very interesting. Maybe they are considering the K712 the "flagship" and in exchange making the K702 a "step down" product .

- The K712, blah blah reference blah blah, and hand made in Austria

- The K702 reference more blahs blah. made in China

Certainly a way to differentiate the products more, even though there isn't much difference. Or, it could be the Austrian factory isn't large enough to accommodate the K712 and K702 production at the same time. Either way, I think the K702 might come lower in price by shifting production to China.

TBH... made in China really shouldn't be something to be feared these days. China has so many manufacturing plants of various levels of quality and performance that it would be unfair to simply label it as cheap or poor. Many high quality electronics are still made there.
