Sorry guys, I screwed up!. I opened mine up again and lo and behold the foam disk  does have a hole in it as it should.

I must have drunk too much Absinthe last night when I first looked!

Still might be worth listening  sometime without them just to see what it does to the balance.

I'm sorry, I'm an idiot! I put on a new pad on Friday and couldn't remember that it has a hole! Here is a pic, sorry for the confusion!

You like them better than your HE-500?

better? nah, I still like the HE-500 more.

But I can move to the 702 and not feel like I'm losing too much. I haven't been using my headphones as much, so I can justify trying to downgrade my rig a bit.

Everyone has their point of diminishing return, I'm just trying to find my balance of a sound signature I can be happy with in this hobby without breaking the wallet :)

With my current income, I can't see myself spending 1K+ for headphones. To me, that's camera and guitar zone (which are hobbies I'm also really passionate about)

Is it true that the Annie is easier to drive well than the K702? Does this go against the idea that all they did to change it is change the ear pads?

It's easier to drive to loud levels in the sense that the pads allow more of the sound to reach your ears. You don't need to raise the volume as much to reach the same decibel level. Also, BECAUSE there is less escaping through the pads, all that energy is sent directly through your ears, so it has more body behind it. With the standard pads, you're not going to get the same impact of sound.

That makes a ton of sense, and though I didn't have it long, explains what I felt when I listened to the K702. I never thought that it was a strange kind of sound leakage... I felt like I just needed to give them more and more juice to make them sound good. Really interesting.

Just purchased a pair from a fellow Head-Fier.  Looking forward to trying them out!  I had a pair of recabled K 701s quite a while ago, and they were pretty fantastic.  I'm hoping these will be sufficient for movies and classical music.

You will be surprised at how well these alternate with the HP100.

How do you mean, alternate?  Like, complement?

Yea, sorry... I was at a loss for words lol
