AKG K702 65th Anniversary Edition - Page 181

Ever since I sold my standard K702, I've missed the sound. This solves that problem. It's like an uber K702 with a better band and is somewhat limited. What's not to like?

If you do that dye job, you need to show how it came out.

So what do you think? Same observations as Salvatore?

Think they will ever make angled pads with memory foam? Best of both worlds?

You can check out my review in my signature if you want something more detailed, but I can quickly tell you I bought the standard pads knowing I definitively enjoy their signature a lot more.

How many different types of pads are there?

I couldn't help it and purchased another set of Annies (had to return the first one due to rattling).

I'm planning on ordering a pair of each one to see the differences.

Just two. The angled/standard foam version and the straight/memory foam version.

I could swear the K701's pads USED to be different from the K702/Q701 pads. I distinctly remember that much on my very old K701. Different consistency, a lot stiffer too. Probably what made them brighter and sterile sounding in comparison to the newer 'sound'.

I have that exact cable.

I don't use it that often because mine is VERY long (at least 15 feet) and isn't all that flexible.  There are also some microphonics.  The cable/connector quality seems good though.

Not sure how it compares in sound against the stock.  I A-Bed it with the stock cable a few times but wasn't really able to hear any differences.

Hmm. Wasn't there a gray and black version of the older angled pads too?

I reached out to my contact in Vienna and got clarification.  He is the product manager for the K702-65.

"Concerning the serial numbers:

Usually we do not start at zero. Depending on the product, numbers below 100, 500 or 1,000 are reserved for internal use. They are reserved for our internal pre-production test series and trial series in order to test the products, assemblies, parts, color, material finish, vibration tests, acoustic measurements, and so on. Moreover, sometimes we skip a range of numbers for customized versions. Therefore, it’s hard to tell which number will be on the last headphone leaving our factory.  It might also happen that our QC department banishes some numbers in case they did not meet our strict requirements".

I hope this information will ease the minds of K702-65 owners and clear up any confusion around the serial numbers.

Should have mine today! Very excited!

These headphones sound pretty good with the AudioQuest DragonFly! I tried them out today and it was a good sound, needed to jack the volume a bit, but it was a good sound. In comparison when I tried the DT990 600 ohm the other day, the K703 65 was easier to drive.  I haven't been able to hear them with the Valhalla yet but I have an Asgard 2 on the way pretty much to run them!  Very comfortable and stylish headphones in my opinion.  Will learn more tonight when I can do some critical listening with the Valhalla. Really psyched about these!

I was using the Annies with the Centrance DAC Mini it was a little bit better than the DragonFly.

I would hope so...Not sure what your point is as the 2 products are nothing alike confused.gif

I had asked on this thread a couple times about how the headphone sounds with the DragonFly and no one ever responded so I just figured I'd let some people know.  That being said I am sure there are MANY things that sound better than the DF.

Can someone recommend a tube amp for these? Basically I want to get into tube amp sound and would like a unit that is built well and will last. I don't want to get into a cheaper tube amp and then have to upgrade down the road. I guess my price range is $300-$600. Obviously would like to spend the least amount possible while getting a nice piece of gear.
