You bought a new amp instead of getting the headphones re cabled?

Your killing me on the jealousy factor between this and the Coloware HD800 tongue.gif  Looking forward to reading about how they sound balanced out of the GS-X Mk2.  I expect there would be a noticeable improvement.

I can tell you right now.  I like them a lot.  Better than the other AKGs I had.  K701, K601 and the Q701..  But not in the same class as the HD800s biggrin.gif

Well I would certainly hope not smily_headphones1.gif  I'll just keep dreaming that one day AKG will release a true flagship that will compete with the HD800.  They certainly have no qualms with releasing a $1300 IEM...

I wouldn't hold my breath on that. AKG is certainly behind the rest of the brands in terms of a flagship (HD800, T1, LC3, etc). The problem I have with the K702 is that they squeak when they rub against my glasses. For some reason some headphones have this (such as these as well as the HD6x0) but most I do not have an issue with. I probably would keep them a bit longer.

I don't think recables hurt resale value, but it's certainly not  [Headphone price] + [Recable price] = [Selling price]

Oh, I won't argue that at all.  I just think if they really wanted to they could probably engineer something that would compete with other top phones and I guess it bugs me that they choose not to.  I think the 65th Anniversary is a step in the right direction from previous models but not a huge step up.  I'm hoping it's just them testing the market with slightly different design philosophies.

I really think they have the engineering expertise to pull it off.  Just not the funding.  I just try to throw the idea out every now and then in hopes that maybe someone from Harman lurks the forums and picks up on it as customer interest.  I'm sure I'm not the only one here who would love to see a truly competitive top end flagship to restore faith in AKG.  I realize though, it's mostly wishful thinking at best.

it's not a step at all , just a minor change that suit better to some tongue.gif

I assume you have a titanium frame for your glasses, right? Had the same trouble with the HD 650 and as the K 702 came in I was like Oh Noooo.. not again!!!. I had some black heat shrink tube on hand and put that on the glasses earpieces right where the pads touch the frame. Tada... no more squeaking at all! And it is nearly invisible for others.

I've been wondering if the K702 Annie was a preview of the next version (which this seems to be the K712), kind of like how the Jubilee was the preview of the HD600.
