AKG K702 65th Anniversary Edition - Page 139

When burning-in the K702 Annies with pink noise overnight (with them off of my head), I noticed that the regular K702 leaked more than the K702 Annies.  This was noticeable, at least to me.  And yes, the volume of the headphone amp was exactly the same, and yes I'm aware of the physics involved regarding closed-back phones.  k701smile.gif Extra bass and low impedance closed-back phones are preferable when walking outdoors in a city.

I thought that the regular K702's had more shouty upper mids (annoying & more fatiguing) than the K702 Annies.

Teac UD-501 drives the K702 Annies just fine.  More than half on the headphone volume knob is the maximum for me!

Interesting because my girlfriend and I both think my Q701 leak pretty bad, and they definitely don't isolate much at all.

The Anniversary model is not new to AKG, the most successful model back in the 80s, the K-240 got his own Anniversary crown.

Well my wife certainly hears everything I listen, but I don't hear her yelling at me :D

Apparently not:

In 1997 when AKG celebrated its 50th anniversary the "K240 Jubilee" in limited edition was made. Acoustically a K240M, it had different nameplates and came with a booklet with a short history of AKG.

It's not moving back into the path of your ears, so the force of bass could never be the same. Even out of neutral closed headphones, bass will still seem on the strong side to me.

One good example is the Pro 900 vs the Pro 2900, which apparently use the same exact drivers. Assuming the only difference is that one is closed and one is open (and barely open at that), you lose SO much of the bass feedback when going from the Pro 900 to the Pro 2900, despite everything else being similar.

I have both, the PRO 900 and the PRO 2900. I f you exchange the pads from the PRO 900 to the PRO 2900, then the bass on the PRO 2900 increases a lot. The pads of the PRO 900 are significantly deeper than the PRO 2900 ones. I read in the German HIFI Forum, that this also applies to using the very expensive anniversary pads on the K701 K702. They will have more bass i.e they will sound like the anniversary. So the Magic is in the pads. I think this is the main Sound difference also within the Beyerdynamic range of 770/880/990 phones.

Never had the Q701, so I can't say for sure -- but the Annie is definitely dark grey, not black.  About the same color as graphite.  You can see this in the photo -- the ear pads are black, and the plastic parts look lighter by comparison.

Be aware though. In reality the grey parts are not as dark as illustrated here. You can check out my photos for "real life" images ;)

The Annie is lighter. A gunmetal gray, while the Q701 is straight mattle black. Not the same. Compared directly.

So how many people have sold these off now? Seems like only a few people ended up keeping them.

Or maybe some of the most vocal posters did. You could do a search on the for sale thread to see how many have been sold on the forum if you're interested.

I just bought a pair though!

Only sold them because I have the LCD2. Otherwise... I'd rebuy these in a heartbeat.

Actually, if I wanted two headphones for less than the price of the LCD2:

K702 Annie + Mr Speaker Mad Dogs (as my closed alternative)

That gives you everything you can ever want out of two headphones, IMHO.
