have you guys tried pinching and rolling the headband diagonally (both ways) for a few minutes.. It softens up the bumps quite a bit...they come pretty stiff from the factory, but loosen up like a baseball mitt does with some manipulation. 

Also, the directions for changing the rubber bands would also release the headband, and look pretty simple...

To exchange the rubber loops 6 break out cover 3
by inserting a screwdriver into the notch below the
CE sign. Now undo locking knob 7. It has latches
that have to be depressed while simultaneously
pressing the knob out.

Is the 601 headband as soft as the 702.65's (probably cheaper if they still have it.)

I'm with imackler on the headband, and I've got a full head of medium-long hair. Despite my "hair buffer" the bumps would still dig in and make me itch under the headband. I couldn't sit still listening to music because I was scratching my head half the time.

Oh well, different headbands for different heads.

All the AKG have the thickest part of the pad at the back and the thin part at the front.  That's how they angle the pads.  You can look and see there is a little mark on one of the bayonet lock tabs underneath, and that's supposed to be at the back of your ears.

I think he may have been referring to early T1 runs. In the beginning there was so much variation in the driver production, the driver to driver variation could be quite large. After the process has been done for so long more and more drivers start to sound the same and are produced in a similar fashion. You can see that in the Q701 measurements.

Suppose the Pro's are for studio applications so matched drivers will be essential when mixing. Not much need for when your just sitting back enjoying the music at home with the more comfortable (Wonder if there is someone at the end of the production line stretching the headbands to make them the-) premium's

I just saw the locking mechanism design of the Denon D-5000 pads, looks like the K702 pads. Maybe you guys can confirm if the Denon D-5000 pads will fit on the K70X ?

This will equal to no more of the AKG soundstage that we all know and love.

Can't assume that. Have you tried?

Not really assuming.  I've put these Denon pads on other headphones.  And it does just that.

If you own both, you should try and see if they even lock up, and if they do what happens to the sound.  For science.

I dont think they will. The AKG housing has a tab that sticks out and the Denon pads have a tab that sticks out.
