I've owned all iterations of the 70x line and while my annies are on the way and I havent heard them yet; I keep in mind the driver limitations. The one thing the akg's have better is freq resp balance, but if there's a small bass bump on the annies, it might sound more like the 700's

I put an offer for some annies on ebay for $450. Offer was accepted $450 including shipping.  The seller changed his mind, refunded my money before shipping the item and relisted them for $499.00.  An absolute c*ck!

You can get them cheaper than $450 depending on where you live I guess.

You can get them for $399 shipped from www.razordogaudio.com w/ coupon code RAZORDOG100. I know I'm tempted!

Thanks guys, I am wanting the headphones to be shipped to Singapore.

Today, I spent a good hour in a local audio shop.  I wanted to listen to some K701 & HD650.  I thought the bass in K701 was not bad but needed a little boost. Whereas HD650 seemed too warm for my taste especially after listening to K701.  I was mostly listening to jazz and acoustic.

But then, I got the chance to listen to LCD2 and HE6 connected to a DP2.  Wow! I was amazed by the details, the sub-bass... I thought K701 had really good soundstage and imaging even when compared to LCD2.  But, playing 'Take five' by Dave Brubeck band on LCD2 and listening to those drums, they come out so clear.  I was hearing new notes on the LCD2 during 'Arranca' by Manzanita.  Needless to say, I was very impressed.

So now, I am again back to square one.  I can get a pair of annies for $450 shipped.  Or wait till next week and pull the trigger on HE500 (a step above the annies and comparable to LCD2).  HE500 are $250 more than the annies. Also, I would require a descent amp/dac which would be another $300-500.

The Annies on the other hand... $450 shipped, another $100 for a local 2nd hand O2 amp and I already own e17 which I am hoping to use as the DAC.

Time to put on some music and start spinning around.

I've been lurking on this forum for some time now. This deal just sent me over the edge. Just placed my order.
Thank you so much.

The secret with all the 70x line is the system that drive them, DAC/ AMP. For studio use the K702 sound more balanced on pro hps amp, like the SPL amps compare to the HD-800. The HD-800 can easy cause ear fatigue with some of the better SS amps. Tubes can work well, but then you'll get sound coloration. The other option to fix the 800's treble will be to go with cheap SS amps that use the NE5532 opamp, and this will roll-off the treble a bit. Looks like the doctor at Sennheiser try to increase resolution by pumping the treble, but not everybody will fall for this cheap trick.

I should keep my 65th today sometime.

However, I find my K701 and Q701 sound really good on my Balanced B22 and my Balanced M^3 using the AD8597 op amps.  Both amps are pretty forgiving which play pretty nice with the HD800s and all the AKGs.  They also add the bass  these headphones need.

Edit:

1000

This thread is pure torture for me! I was pretty sure i had settled on the Q701 $240 from amazon was sounding like a winner till i read this thread.

I could stretch to $400 to grab the Annies from razordogaudio if they get them in stock before their sale is over...

I am trying to return my Annies, since I just splurged on HD 700s, however I may miss the return window by a couple of days depending on when those arrive. I did want to spend a couple days ABing the two. If I miss it for whatever reason, is anyone looking for a set of Annies? Could be ready to go as soon as Monday next week.

I baby the heck out of everything I own, all original packaging included and I will even throw in a custom made 16' cable for the low low price of $400, that would include shipping in the continental US. You cover PayPal fees and shipping outside of the continental US. PayPal fees are around $12.95.

PM if interested, S/N is 0752.

$400 will buy you a q701 and a nice headphone amp. Q701 is basically the same headphone.smile.gif

Hate to see you let the annies go... It was so much fun having a kind of personal tube tester around ;) If you somehow drift to get rid of your T1 I would gladly buy your white logo amperex :D Hope you like the 700s. Keep us posted mate.

I remember someone much earlier in the thread claiming that the Q701 with the 65th-Aniv. pads sound pretty much the same as the stock 'Annies'. Has anybody else verified this?
