I've decided on the first theme for our "mixtape" project:

 

Repetition.

Repetition.

Repetition.

 

 

Either as a lyrical theme, an actual structural feature of the song, or both. Be creative. It can be an interesting rhythmic pattern, lyrics about the seasons, falling into the same situations, obsessions, etc.

Speaking of repetition, this piece about how the composer of how the composer of the Bolero (and other artists) become obsessed with repetition / iteration and slowly go insane is worth listening to. It worries me to think something I like could be a sign of the beginning of some horrible neuroatrophy.

Okay, just going to throw this out there in case I can't think of anything better.  Following the song structure direction, it's Thé à la Menthe (La Caution Instrumental Version) by Nikkfurie.
 

 

Gonna keep trying to find something better though - i.e. going in a direction other than song structure.

Seriously, I swear I'm not an uncritical fanboy! I have a thing for Sony because I grew up with them, but honestly if you asked me who made the best headphones I wouldn't say Sony. XD

 

Now if you accused me for being a fanboy for Japanese headphone brands in general, I could not deny it.

No, I know, far from it.  I'm just doing a little good-natured teasing as Sony just happens to be very well represented in the initial batch of vids.  Totally messing around.  smile.gif

Tbh, I don't know much about John Martyn beyond the fact that one of my favorite artists, Al Stewart, produced his second album "The Tumbler". I bought the vinyl record just for that reason, without prior auditioning, and ended up thoroughly disappointed because it felt uninspired and monotonous compared to Al's work. Only much later I came to understand that repetition was an intentional element in John Martyn's musical style, and closer listening revealed that his repetitions include subtle variations that make his compositions rewarding, if you're willing to pay attention to detail. Sadly his preference for repetition didn't quite confine itself to music, and he never came to grips with his consumption of alcohol, which added to his long-term chronic health problems and ultimately his death in 2009.

Mixtape Submission #1:  Black Sheep by The Clash at Demonhead (a.k.a. Metric feat. Brie Larson)  #diarymixtape #repetition #mixtape

 

 

While it wasn't written specifically for the soundtrack to Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, Black Sheep has since become the de facto theme song of the film.  The version included on the official soundtrack is the original recording by Metric with Emily Haines on vocals.  However, I have selected the film version shown above.  It is a cover version (repetition w/variation) featuring Brie Larson who also plays Envy Adams in the film.

 

Lyrically speaking, we're put into the shoes of a lover scorned, facing the return of the one past obsession that she can never resist.

Again and again, she gives her heart out to this one, knowing full well it will do nothing more than satisfy her need to do so.  Interestingly, this seems to foreshadow a later plot element regarding Ramona and Gideon, but I'll refrain from divulging that and possibly spoiling anything.

 

In relation to the film, it should be noted that the entire premise of the film is based upon Ramona having repeatedly gone for the wrong guy, without which Scott would have no obvious antagonists to overcome.  The franchise itself is also heavily linked to glorious 8-bit games, which in and of themselves have provided us all with a host of truly repetitive experiences I'm sure (well, depending on difficulty I guess). 

 

 

BTW, feel free to listen to Metric's version if you like.  I just happen to prefer this version for personal reasons.

Finished loading ammo for the .348 today. Tomorrow I put it through it's paces. Hopefully, no explosions will occur....

Is there a reason to believe that it will?  Were you going for a hot load?  If so, good luck on that, hope nothing unexpected happens.
