Shigzeo seems to be unphased by their (lack of) build quality, while others seem to feel otherwise. I wish they'd done a more substantial job given the price but eh, what can you do

Hey, you'd be surprised by how effective a knot can be!  Although... for that to be truly effective, they'd have to tie a second knot on the outside of the housing as well.  Pushing the cable in and out - within the slack between the joint and internal knot - can also wreak havok on the solder joint.  Still, that doesn't solve the problem of torsional forces due to cable twisting.  Damn, now I'm overthinking it all.

Well TBH, the main reason I'm thinking of the International is because of the DAC/amp integration - which would make for a smaller stack.  I've come to realize that - if I have it strapped to a phone - I don't want to pull out huge brick just to call/txt.  If I were going for just an amp, the Continental would probably be preferable - especially if I can find a good deal on it second-hand.

Has anyone here heard the Portaphile 627?  I'm mainly going off of Mike's Headfonia review in terms of that one.

Well, now you can keep an eye out and lemme know.  I've actually got an HD650 here with me now.  It's on loan to me from FearSC549.  I'll be gathering some detailed impressions on it shortly (it's for a comparison on a unit I'm reviewing), but I can tell you right now that I'm not it's biggest fan.  For the record, FearSC549 isn't it's biggest fan either.  Maybe I can persuade him to part with it in a trade or something?

You know, I'm guessing my brain has finally acclimated to the CLAS -db because over the last couple of days Ravens DAC capabilities seem to have really opened up for me. The music seems cleaner but there's still a very rich sound to it. I've even noticed Eva with it's 209 opamp rolled into her has taken a step forward when paired with Raven and a lot of the music just snaps and has this natural sort of smooth kind of presentation to it while note decay tonality and detail retrieval remains top notch. I'm rather happy with this purchase so far. Rush's Roll The Bones and Moving Pictures CD's are really sounding killer right now

I haven't heard it but everyone seems to agree with Mikes review so I'm guessing his article would be a good benchmark for making your decision. The new 627X will have an 8 hour battery life so if you pull the trigger get the 627x and not the 627 with it's piddly 4 hour battery life

Yeah agreed, for the last few weeks I've started to wonder if the low ballers and 14 year old troller kids have taken over the FS forums.

The last one was on my 7550s (which thankfully are going to a new home eventually :). He was asking for more than $100 off the price. I'm like "good luck with that man." I'm in no way desperate and of course the gear does hold a good amount of its value regardless. Otherwise I'd just keep them if I had to take such a huge lose (W3000 nightmare lol). Not to mention since they no longer make them they are gonna get scarce and prices will go up on them.

Sorry about the multiple posts everyone but I just noticed this.

If you don't mind me asking what exactly is turning you off about the HD650 Warren. Is the Sennheiser veil in the mids just to much for you to the extend you can't enjoy your music? Some people have sworn proper synergy takes the 650 to a whole new level so I'm wondering if you've tried mixing and matching gear with it.

I think I'd like to sit-in on this one...and wait for him (warrenpchi) to express.
