Hmm... the specs say 450V for the Emperor's bias. Stax pro bias is 580V.
Personally I'd feel more comfortable running them in normal bias (230V) lest the amp smoke 'em. That or use an amp with an Orpheus bias setting (500V).

Cool. I'm not particularly knowledgeable about electrostatics so this is going to be something to learn about. I'll have to follow the links this evening.

I'm a bit frustrated right now regarding the Stax SRS-002 portables. As I mentioned before, there's a squealing noise when I run it in eco mode. A few others I've talked to (including a US distributor) have heard it too, but so far the issue hasn't gained much exposure.
If you look in the SRS-002 thread most seem to be ignoring or glossing over it. I had one person tell me it was no big deal because the amp doesn't sound as good in eco mode anyway, so he would never use that feature. LOL. Not the point.
Right now I think I'm going to just return them for a refund or exchange them. I don't want to deal with warranty repairs (through Yama Enterprises no less) on a brand new item.

TBH I've never actually owned an electrostatic headphone, so I have no idea when people discuss bias. What is bias, exactly? Is it a spec of the headphone, or headphone amp? Why is it important, and what do I have to consider when buying a electrostatic headphone and amp in terms of bias?

I'm sorry the SRS-002 didn't work out for you. It was one of my most anticipated portable headphone and I've only listened to it for a short time at a headphone convention, but quality control issues made me have second thoughts. Perhaps this world is not yet ready for a portable electrostatic headphone...

I'm getting back into my other hobby, just placed a bid on a nice Winchester M71. If all goes well, I'll finally have a .348 in my collection. Audio gear will have to take a back-seat for awhile.

I feel compelled to go visit that store as it's apparently situated in my city.
On the other hand, if I were to push some serious dollars into an audio product, I'd definitely go for this superb audio-file (pun) server.

I really like the fact that their $65000 supercomputer handles all modern formats: FLAC, DSD, WAV, Blu-Ray Audio, DVD-A, SACD and has expansion for future formats.

Just when they were selling interesting headphones again. Get your Citiscape Downtown headphones while you can, I guess.

Man I remember way back Bangraman was gonna build a server in his closet just so he could run Sonicstage to output files for his MD recorder. And I thought that was crazy

Haha, that is a bit crazy too. You'd think a normal consumer grade computer (like the one he was posting from?) could've handled such a task, no?
Oh, and hey:
Because 12 CPU cores wasn't enough performance, we incorporated our ALL NEW General Processing Unit. This GPU is engineered for parallel computing and is a two-way communication between PCI bus and CPUs. This dual card installation is capable of 4 TaraFlops (floating point operations per second). Compared to a standalone CPU, which is in the 10GFlops range you're talking about performance improvements in an order of 1000x more processing speed. This is the equivalent of having a 1000 Core CPU.
It's nearly as powerful as the NASA Supercomputer.
I want a server that is nearly as powerful as the NASA Supercomputer!

They need that supercomputing power so that FLACs and WAVs can be streamed - without jitter!
