I thought I was a video game geek, but I've only played a handful of games mentioned in this thread
Then again, my game of the year last year was Crusder Kings 2, and probably pretty much nobody played it.
It's a very good game, but I think I'm done-ish. I love the strategic/tactical aspects of the game, but I have 3 problems with it:
1 - I can't stand when I drag our team down. It's embarrassing, and my reflexes just can't keep up with young people's.
2 - I can't stand when a team drags me down. I hate going 7/1/21 and losing....
3 - Hell is other people. How many people have I seen someone lecture/berate teammates then go 5/11/2?
Liked 5. Loved 6. Played 7, but while I liked it, it also didn't make a ton of sense. Kind of gave up on it after that.

Actually, in my experience the opposite is true.
There's a misconception that IEMs are going to always sound inferior to similarly priced full-sized headphones, and that's just not true. If anything, $200 will get you better sound in the IEM world than with their larger counterparts. As you move up the ranks into summit-fi the gap closes, however. Seems like $1k headphones and IEMs are pretty close in many cases. Like most things in this hobby, it comes down to preference as each form factor has its respective strengths and weaknesses. IEMs do some things better. Headphones others.
I appreciate this info, although it complicates my inevitable decision making process.
Fair enough. I'm leaning that way, mostly because i have to carry a smart phone around anyways, due to family stuff. It's part of the reason I asked for a Samsung GS3 for xmas. Now I can USB it to a DAC and bob is my uncle.
Now I just need a portable DAC. And better IEMS. And....

Speaking of games, is anyone here going to play Hawken? Here ya go: http://www.playhawken.com/#game-info
I miss big stompy mech action. In fact, one of Bioware's first games was the mech game Shattered Steel. Pretty cool in it's time.
As for Descent, I still have the level packs for it. Wish Parallax/Volition would reboot it. A "flying FPS" would appeal to a good many new gamers. "Wingnut" is still a fave game character of mine...
I thought tribes was flying fps..... /hides

A rather embarrassing picture of me (then long-haired) with the maestro himself, taken 3 years ago.
You can purchase two live albums of Final Fantasy orchestra music in 24/88.2 hi-rez FLAC here, for only 10 bucks each.

If you've beaten 6, 7, 8, and 10, then you've pretty much beaten the best games of the series. :)
thanks man! Nice pic

What a coincidence, I've been reading about Hawken yesterday. In fact, I was watching this particularly long "let's play" video:

Anyone ever play Chromehounds online? Still the pinnacle of online multiplayer for me.
Insane customisation, incredible variety of maps and environments, perfect blend of deep strategy and required skill to execute and an entrenched and dedicated community vying for notoriety.
