The SR-009 + BHSE combo didn't thrill me, though I enjoyed the amp very much with the SR-007 Mk1s. As all headphones don't appeal to all people, HD800s may just be too clinical and sterile for my taste. It isn't that I find them overly harsh or sibilant, though in a handful of cases they have been.
Agreed on the BHSE. It's the perfect amp for the SR-007mk1 to my ears, as it can wake those transducers up from their slumber with its reserves of power, but it just didn't sound nearly as engaging with the SR-009 to me. That's why I ended up with the LL. It lacks the power and subsequent driver control of the BHSE, but sounds more alive, harmonically satisfying, and has a more convincing open three-dimensional presentation (especially with the older SR-Omega). With the SR-007mk1 however it's a bit too polite for some peoples' tastes.
The LL also kicks all kinds of ass with the Jade.
