If it's a digital source, you could always record it in a binary fashion with error correction. Kind of like the Minisdisc. That does limit its viability as an readily accessible archive though.

Sucks showering and then going out to the grocery store in the rain.
Uh... might be getting my dream CIEMs soon? Very cool.
....aaaaand apparently QUAD Musik can't hear anything wrong with the Float QA I sent in to be repaired or replaced. The right channel was clearly cutting in and out, and when it would return it sounded distorted and overblown. They're asking me to clarify what I mean, but I honestly don't know how I could say it any clearer. There's either something wrong with the headphones or the transformer.
But of course they can't hear anything wrong. That would be too easy.
I'm getting sick of this hobby.
Did you ask them to check out the transformer too? If so, maybe they're just not listening to it for very long periods of time.
No, Mone-chan and I will not be roomies. Not for a while, at least. The Monet is only sold in Japan; even authorized FitEar sellers who provide customs like Jaben aren't going to stock them.
The MH335DW on the other hand is a different matter...
The lower end one? Is that the FXZ100?
I dunno, I'm just not feeling the FXZ200. Then again I never really connected with the FXT90L2 on any level beyond idle curiosity, so if someone really likes the FXT90, they may very well like the FXZ200. The surround-sound effect of the FXZ200 is interesting, and from a pure R&D standpoint it's a neat little device. Something about its timbre bothers me however, and I'm finding the treble a little echoey.
Pretty sure the issue isn't with the transformer, because when I tried it with the K1000 it seemed fine. I didn't want to ship it back to them because it's pretty heavy and would cost more. At first I thought "maybe they didn't set the transformer for US voltages and I've been under powering it?" However they assure me it was set for 110V.
Like I said to them in my e-mail, the problem would sometimes disappear for a few days before returning again inexplicably. My thinking is along the same lines: they may not be hearing it because it just hasn't manifested yet. They say they'll continue to test it next week, so I'm hoping it'll turn up again before they decide to give it a clean bill of health.
Even if it doesn't turn up, I'm going to ask them to replace the set with a new one. Hopefully that will solve the problem, but if it persists I'll send the transformer in too. Honestly, if it weren't for the fact that these were some of the best headphones I've ever heard, I'd just tell them to forget it and ask for a refund. At this point I'm determined to have a working set however.
On a semi-related note, I sent an e-mail to Sennheiser asking if I could get my IE800 replaced due to the weird clinking sound in the left earpiece. I would have simply returned it to Amazon.co.jp, but they're sold out and not expecting more until a month or two from now. Problem is I don't think the IE800 is available in the US yet, so I'm hoping Sennheiser can replace it anyway. Again: only doing this because they're some of the best universal earphones I've ever heard.
Geez... what is it with the gear I like most having all these weird issues? The other stuff is fine.
Congrats. The HD800 + ZDSE is a legendary pairing.
On the subject of amps for the HD800, I was really amazed by the Cavalli Liquid Glass. As much as I like the sound of the Senns with the ZDSE and Balancing Act, the LG just had this amazing engaging quality, this ability to draw the listener into the sound field. It seemed to emphasize width less and depth more. It just sounded so dynamic and---dare I invoke that most nebulous of terms---musical. My only crit at the time was the background noise: there was a noticeable hum with the HD800. Apparently that issue was only on the prototype, however.
One amp I'd love to try with the HD800 is the DNA Stratus:
The synergy between these two is said to be amazing. My main concern is that it may not be the best choice for highly sensitive headphones. For that, there's the Sonett 2:
I'm partial to the sound of 2A3s though, so I'm still more interested in the former. Either way I respect Donald. He's a nice guy and willing to chat with folks about this hobby, upfront and open about his methodology when it comes to amp design. Most of all, I like that he refuses to give in to peoples' demands for other colors on his amps. You always see posts where people are lecturing him on how he'd sell more amps if they came in piano black or silver. His response to this is that he's just not interested in making black or silver amps. As fellow head-fier Radio_Head says: Donald is making functional art.
Similarly, you can only get Manley Labs gear in their powdery steel blue color:
That's the NeoClassic 300B, another amp that has intrigued me for a while now, though I'm much less familiar with the fabled "300B sound." It's generally ranked among the top tiers of headphone amps (and has a price tag to match), though you seldom if ever see it mentioned here on head-fi. The most exposure it had was back in 2003 / 2004 or thereabouts when another head-fier experienced audible hum with the R10. The response from Manley Labs was fantastic: a rep joined the thread and worked as a go-between with the engineers to isolate the problem and correct it. They fixed the issue, but the owner in question didn't even give the amp a second chance, dismissing it and moving on after raising such a huge fuss in the first place. Fortunately the result was positive: it lead to the amp's further refinement.
But yeah, the response from Manley Labs continues to stand out in my mind as a prime example of customer service at its best. I also really dig their sense of humor. Reminds me of Schiit Audio. Oh yeah, and the company is run by a woman, EveAnna Manley.
I feel like I should get an amp that uses 300B or PX4 at some point. Aside from the ZDSE whose tube compliment is really weird, the amps I use are either 2A3 or EL34.
Muramasa VIII, anyone?

:/ man, way to shoot down a potential customer that could potentialy shoot down more potential customers... tbh, I've never heard about them outside of this thread. They only offer up cables, but everyone's got cardas, double helix, moon audio, etc. Also agree on the being stuck-up or gung ho. I seriously doubt anyone is going to buy those phones. just look at them. 5k without any impressions or hearing is pretty risky.
Just checked the abyss page, and they're labeled as "the worlds finest headphones". That's pretty bold for 5k up against the R10, Orpheus, and 009
Yeah, it's a little disheartening to see some of the directions this hobby has taken in recent years. Uber-expensive headphones have always been around, but in most cases those were well established companies whose offerings consisted of a fairly wide range of products. With full-sized headphones growing in popularity and $100-500 sets becoming relatively more common place, the number of $1k offerings also increases while the boundaries of summit-fi continue to expand. We're also seeing newcomers showing up with increasingly expansive first time entries. Six or seven years ago, a cable company showing up out of the blue with a $5k pair of headphones would have been unheard of methinks.
Seems like the ortho market best illustrates this: smaller companies getting into the scene, offering flagships with increasingly lofty price tags. I mean, the transition from LCD-2 to LCD-3 was a doubling in that sense. The LCD-4 may just be closer to the Abyss unfortunately.
Still for as much as this hobby is growing, summit-fi remains a niche within a niche, a relative microcosm. Dr. Fang was smart enough to realize this with HiFiMan, and when he was getting ready to launch the HE-6, he offered a listening tour and allowed people plenty of opportunities to listen to them. Audez'e likewise stayed close to the community with an ear to the ground, though they seem to be drifting away a bit these days.
JPS isn't going to last very long with their current attitude. Uber-expensive headphones fail without that sense of familiarity and trust. They fail miserably. It happened just last year, in fact.
Muramasa VIII, anyone?
Do you have a roommate? Freshman year I was roommates with this girl who would leave me hostile notes accusing me of going through her stuff (which wasn't true) and criticizing me for not keeping my desk organized to her liking. She'd invite her awful boyfriend in at all hours and they'd get into screaming matches about how much they hated one another, and she'd often barricade herself inside the storage closet and proceed to scream at him from the other side of the door.
They ended up getting married a few years later, according to a friend of mine. Like my sentiments to JPS:
"Good luck. You'll need it."
I'm starting a 1-class semester tomorrow because I ****ed up my registration for the last one. I was thinking of retaking another class I did poorly in awhile back, but **** it. As I've explained elsewhere academia is a source of immense frustration and anxiety for me.
Also, somewhat related to a topic at hand: I could really use a second roommate here as we have this giant empty bedroom, but I'm worried about someone I don't know very well stealing my nice **** for drug money. It's already bad enough that the people downstairs may or may not have done that awhile back. My good friends are all broke and content living with their parents for the time being. I've offered to let one of them live here for nickel and dime money, though, because he has this hardcore Mexican family sense of cleanliness and responsibility and I think he's honestly considering it after he graduates. He makes me feel like I have a mother around.

New flagship from JVC, the DX2000:
Seems very similar to the DX1000. This info was discovered on JVC's Chinese website, and apparently there's no mention of this in Japan yet. The DX1000 is a really fun headphones, extremely colored, and built nicely. I'd like to try these out sometime too.
Also a new amp from Yamamoto Sound Craft, the HA-03:
Both a headphone and small speaker amp. Looks very cute. I can picture it with the DX2000 above sitting in my office by a little bonsai tree. Or maybe it could be used with those Pioneer Pure Malt speakers.
Plastic DX 1000???
Would be fun to audition surely though why a plastic DX 1000???
. The DX 1000 is so relaxing to listen to :)

>:o another woody. First black woody I've seen. But the all black scheme makes it a bit dry for my eyes since it already has a clean-cut design. Looks amazing otherwise :D
It kinda looks to be black wood finish to me. Not sure why they'd show a Wood Cup in the picture if not and using that as a selling point otherwise. Could just be a revision of the older flagship. They did the same with the new FX800. Not sure if its worth the upgrade though. I hear they improved the treble and bass more. But I was mainly concerned with the mids. They really needed to bring the mids up at least another 5 dB to bring it in line with the presentation, then it would be an extremely good IEM.
