So I was corresponding with JPS Labs about their Abyss headphones, and I asked if they'd consider letting me preview them before their official launch. They said no, that they wont be offering any previews, along with something about availability being limited from filling distributor orders. The tone of their response was kinda nervy.

I can't help but feel like they're really overestimating demand for these. It seems they expect people to buy them without first endearing themselves to the community, something that is absolutely crucial for a newcomer. Especially given their ludicrous asking price of $5k which puts them right up against the current halo product, the SR-009, they really need to do more to prove they aren't just trying to milk gullible audiophiles. Basically, it's a rather small and close-knit niche market that will make or break them.

Was really tempted to write back saying "Well good luck. You'll need it."

I think I have a better understanding of the way JPS is operating now however, and TBH my interest in the Abyss is sinking fast. I'm sick of companies like this.

For something that uncomfortable looking, don't waste your money unless you want it as a collector's piece. Even then, I'm sure there would be more interesting pieces to obtain.

:/ man, way to shoot down a potential customer that could potentialy shoot down more potential customers... tbh, I've never heard about them outside of this thread. They only offer up cables, but everyone's got cardas, double helix, moon audio, etc. Also agree on the being stuck-up or gung ho. I seriously doubt anyone is going to buy those phones. just look at them. 5k without any impressions or hearing is pretty risky.

Just checked the abyss page, and they're labeled as "the worlds finest headphones". That's pretty bold for 5k up against the R10, Orpheus, and 009

Sometimes you can't help but just sit back with a huge bag of popcorn and patiently wait for the next runaway train wreck. You know it's going to be ugly but as hard as you try you just cannot look away. The Denon fiasco was an entertaining time and now we have JPS Labs coming down the tracks looking to outdo Denon. Anyone want some of my popcorn? You all might as well be comfortable and munching popcorn when the festivities begin. I think when those crazy priced headphones are finally released we're all going to have to tolerate the fan boys (all three of them ) running around all over the boards screaming at the STAX, Qualia and Orpheus crowd. Oh well, nothing else left to do except kick back and watch the circus.

I wonder who they would be....
