Anyone here speak Russian? I'm trying to buy some gear off a guy in the for-sale forum, but his English is not so good, and my Russian is noexistant. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hmm, not press so I won't be there until Tuesday.  You'll all probably know more than I do from live coverage (as I'll be at a funeral and then in transit).

 

Lately I've been playing with hand pours, which is more or less like what the Hamilton Beach does but with a lot more manual labor. In fact it's more or less exactly what any run of the mill drip coffee maker does, from Mr. Coffee on up, excepting only that I get a lot more detailed control over various brewing factors. It's also easier for me to keep the exposed surfaces clean so that the plastic doesn't acquire a stale coffee funk the way.

 

(Honestly I think that drip makers get a bad rap. There are two secrets to making good coffee in one: Use twice as much grounds as you're supposed to; Keep the thing scrupulously clean. The second part is unbelievably hard, due to how the basket holders are usually designed.)

 

My usual day's intake is about a pot of coffee (though I drink more when I'm on site somewhere; I'm not going to think about that too hard) so on lazier days I usually use a French press, which fixes about a liter. Mine's double-steel walled, so it's good at keeping the coffee warm (when I preheat it) and dishwasher-safe.

 

My office uses K cups and I honestly don't think they have anything to recommend them; There's a lot of actual variety, but the when the options range from bad to mediocre, who cares? The egregious waste it generates just simply salt in the sore. What I've been lobbying for is one of those Starbucks coffee robots that grind and brew each cup on demand, but I haven't won many people to my side yet. (Which is not to say I'm a Starbucks fan; but if prepackaged Starbucks product does better than a K cup, as far as I'm concerned that damns the K cup.)

 

One of my favorite local baristas brews with AeroPress. I don't think it's bad at all, but it's not a technique I've tried myself either. If you go that route (looks like you're not, but if you change your mind) it's got a vibrant hacker community around it and it's worth reading up on what they do with it.

This DigitalFreak is now kicking back to some Popol Vuh on his j-phonic K2 sp mated to Eva whose being fed by his iPod Classic 7th gen. As the relaxing notes swirl and dance around me in an epiphany of audio wonderment I quietly sip away on a XL Tim Hortons calamine tea. End result, I've entered a deliciously wonderful state of audio induced nirvana. Ladies and gentlemen, in the state I'm in right now, short of someone lighting my scrotum on fire, I couldn't care less what anyone could say or do to try and rile me up. I love lazy Sunday evenings consisting of long musical listening sessions sprinkled in with short moments of inner reflection.

 

Soooo, hows everyone elses lazy Sunday evening going? Anyone out there have any amusing anecdotes to spin?

I can't drink coffee either. I can drink awful beer, like Coors or Miller, but coffee in all shapes and forms tastes gross to me.

I've been watching Doctor Who. For the last 7 hours. Please help me stop.

I don't really get the idea behind describing to someone how they look, unless they literally ask for it (how do I look?). What I mean is something that I experience from time to time, for instance last week at work: a colleague worker in administration asked me "Do you have kids? You look so young..". Well, I look younger than 32, but that's a bit beside the point. The point is that I think I know I look young, and that would be my expectation about anyone. Any person, old or young, capable of seeing themselves in a mirror, shouldn't have to hear my description of them, unless they ask for it. It's a question not only of respect, but also of courtesy and using your head once in a while.

 

I remember some woman on TV having a bit of thicker upper lip hair, kind of a moustache. The guy talking to her told her that she has it. I mean, if a grown up, adult, woman, fully capable of seeing herself in a mirror, has a moustache - I'm pretty damn sure that she knows about it herself!

 

I think I woke up grumpy today, maybe it's just a non-issue, but come on... Sometimes I wish I could just say "Think before you open that facial manure hatch of yours.." to some people.

 

Yeah, I must've woken up grumpy today.

 

Also I might get an Aeropress myself. I love my Bodum French Press, but boy is it annoying to clean at times. And if you have a larger one, then you have to find a separate container to store the coffee so it doesn't brew with the grounds longer.

CdC, you should start listening to Ska. It'll help you mellow out.

I got an Aeropress earlier this year and have gone back to pour over. To get the best results, you need to be fairly finicky about the water temp for the extraction to go as planned. Also you basically end up with a single shot. I'd rather just make the whole cup at one time than make what's essentially an Americano.

Really, sheesh. It would be nice if we could figure out [as a society] how to stop being so stuck on ourselves long enough to learn how to treat other people for a change...

 

Today was actually fairly productive as far as my days go.  I sold my WA22 and arranged for a local head-fier to come over and audition my HA160-D, which also gives me an excuse to make this place less of a schiithole

 

I also exercised and went to a store for food instead of ordering out.

I might be ordering an Electra soon, if I can still get in on this batch (emphasis on the if).  Since I realized I have quite a lot I wouldn't mind selling and suddenly have the energy to do things like that.
