Huh, either my wall spirits were coincidentally banished sometime within the last couple of days or that hourly hum I mentioned with the ECBA before was it picking up something from my DAC's USB input, because I haven't heard it in the past 2 hours or so I've been listening with the Stello.

I have a problem similar to yours

It isn't bad but I can't use Universals for a long time. Either I have to push it in too far which causes too much driver flex and creates a different sound or the weird position it is in gives me another weird sound and it falls out. (run on sentence is run on lol)

I do too, but it's only with non-vented iems that create a vacuum seal. I feel like the air pressure literally compresses my eardrum, and limits the movement between the driver and my eardrum.

I usually overcome it by using foams, and cut the excess foam level with the nozzle.

I've come to the conclusion that people who watch very gory films, and listen solely to classical music, are actually serial killers.

That happens only if it goes in deep. I don't do it that deep.

My current units can't use the foam Comply's I have sadly :/

I am really dumb.

After my FXD80's died, I've spent some more time with my GR07's, and now realised that I have actually put the ear guides on the wrong way, which would explain why they always flopped past my ears. Now that the are secure I love them about 100 times more; considering I've always liked their sound.

Putting them against the 7550's is an interesting comparison since they are similar enough that the differences become flavourful. 

It almost makes me want to pull the trigger on the new bass edition GR07's, but alas I promised myself to stop spending so much and save more.

Speaking of this, I just reached a passage of Antifragile about 'hedonistic states' which I thought you guys and gals might find interesting:

What's interesting to me about this idea is that I'm of two minds about it when applied to my own experience with this hobby. I've been on the upgrade treadmill and it's exhausting to chase the technology. Whenever something new comes out I get all excited about it, as much I try not to be. At the same time I feel like there's a certain satisfaction in the collection / appreciation aspect - when you honestly do consider some of the headphones you have as icons of design/art rather than just technological products.

The trouble is that it seems difficult to separate the two in my mind. The technology is the heritage as much as anything else. I keep my SA5000's proudly on display because I like to look at them and they give me the warm and fuzzies as a (albeit minor) piece of Sony history, and yet part of those warm and fuzzies is the idea that this is an example of Sony being at the top of their game with materials and process technologies.

I don't know why it matters, but I'd like to feel like there is much more to it than chasing after the state of the art; if only for my wallet's sake.

I guess it's about narrative; a headphone becomes a collectible if there is a narrative built around it rather than just a list of specs. People like narratives, and boutique firms live and die on narrative. What's interesting is that we are creating the narratives in real time on the forum, and we have a name for some of these 'bad' narratives - FOTM, hype trains. But there are all kinds of Head-Fi narratives that we don't have names so much for, like the narrative that emerges when a product is particularly polarising (controversy seems to improve the popularity of a product since it's a good narrative). Just look at the O2 and the Magni: these two products would be oh so boring if there wasn't some narrative behind their production, and the narrative is probably great for both of these products.

Amusingly this implies (as Taleb does earlier in the book) that if people go out of their way to attack a product on Head-fi, it will probably have the unintended result of making it more popular. If a company releases a product to bad (but loud) fanfare on head-fi, it will probably set up the next iteration of the product for great success if it can overcome the shortcomings of the first product (the improvement becomes a narrative in itself). The firms, big and small, have all kinds of narratives, from David V Goliath battles to techno-mystical fables to scientism and the shrine of objectivity.

What are some of the narratives that appeal to us individually? 

Japan: I understood MF the first time she expressed. But appreciated her breaking it down all the same.  I've long lusted after Nakamichi, Shindo and other fine gears from the east and appreciate where some of these designers stood/stand with their vision.

Japan, cont'd: Also have a deep appreciation for the country bringing two very important institutions off of life-support - Jazz and High-end Vacuum Tube Amps.
