I agree Achmed I've definitely noticed this as well with some members. In some cases it can be a good thing and in others it can be a bad thing. But in the end I think it's a good thing either way because you can either save money by avoiding disappointing purchases or purchasing something that you most likely will like to begin with :).
 

Edit: Wow this is pretty nuts. As I had said earlier. Don't underestimate hackers. Some of you may think it's comical but there are very formidable ones out there.

I've had people tell me I am overly paranoid, but this is why I keep half of my money at home, and half in the bank....the possibility of the bank being hacked.

Perhaps the more paranoid thing is to have many bank accounts and transfer your money between the different accounts every week in a random fashion. If you did that, I might call you overly paranoid.

 

 

Pretty uncommon; there are probably less than a few hundred thousand in the US total (many probably don't even know of their condition, just that they're sterile), but I think the point is that they exist and that categorizing by genotype rather than phenotype is probably the more logical thing to do (but not necessarily practical or socially-acceptable).

What possibility, banks or at least the ones in N. America, have been getting their databases hacked for years. You don't usually hear to much about it because banks usually track them down and have been known to either pay them off to go away and sign a disclaimer to not leak any information onto the net or in other cases they have hired them to look after security of their online databases. A few years ago one of the largest banks in Canada, The Royal Bank, got fed up with all the tom foolery and caught and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law a young hacker. They approached the news agencies with it and had it published all over the country as a warning they weren't going to put up with hackers playing around on their systems anymore. By the way, you have nothing to worry about as far as your funds disappearing from your bank account. When you deposit money into a bank account it's usually insured against online theft by the government.

I've been checking out the coverage on the Tokyo Headphone Show.

 

Some interesting things:

 

(1) The FAD Heaven II was announced/released; looks identical to the IV and VI.

(2) I'm ready to declare Ultrasone as more insane than FAD. They're definitely much more unscrupulous. While the iQ has an interesting breakdown, the Tio is just silly overpriced IMO. My guess is that the Tio is going to be a prettier ER4, but with brain-piercing treble spikes added. At least the Romeo/Juliet look pretty. It's back to the 'his and hers' discussion again...

(3) I still don't know what to make of JH's new FreqPhase thing. It strikes me as a sort of polarizing filter for sound.

(4) Hifiman is always interesting, yet boring at the same time. The dock for the 901 is a nice idea, though.

(5) Sennheiser has been the most intellectually stimulating. It looks like the IE800 is using varying acoustic impedance to create a mechanical crossover with a single driver. If anyone's got the ability to pull this off, it's Senn.

 

ADDENDUM:

 

The IE800 looks fairly bassy. It doesn't really matter what they used to measure it, it's bassy.

At least the two chamber mechanism gets rid of sibilance resonant peaks.

Home again after two weeks in South Korea.

 

A fun time was had.

 

Ate a lot of kimchee of course but also had one of the most awesome steaks I've ever eaten in my life. It's a good place for food, if food is a thing you like.

So did you make Psy proud and do S. Korea gangnam style

Korean food is one of my most favorite foods :). I love making home made Spicy Korean Chicken. Finger licking good. :P

Other headphone-related, but not really related thoughts:

 

VSONIC's CEO comes off as a part of the second generation rich kid squad. The GR08 thread likes to stalk him on his Sina Weibo (China's analogue to Twitter), and to me, he comes off as a guy who enjoys flaunting his Porsche, his big house, and his attractive young wife. Anyways, China's ｢富二代｣ has come to represent the decaying morality of the nation, especially in the wake of the Bo Xilai scandal and the changing of the politburo guard to the new age princelings, beginning with Xi Jingping. I'm wondering what the diary folks think of this phenomenon.

 

At the same time, however, VSONIC seems to be one of the few companies that genuinely wants to push the limits of headphone-making in China, something I can't say is part of the ambitions of all of the other half a million or so OEM factories scattered around the Middle Kingdom. What do you guys think of the model that China has adapted for their nation --- give a few a lot of money, so that the entire nation will seem to prosper? Do you guys really think that this model will move China to the forefront as a superpower? The economists seem to think so; the White House fears so. The peasants and farmers have their doubts.

More thoughts, part 2:

 

I sometimes have to really, really resist the urge to troll on the other forums. Sometimes, I feel really compelled to reply to peoples' questions with a sardonicism that surprises even myself.

 

Smoking --- I understand the temptation and the extreme difficulty in quitting, and I also know a few members here take a drag here and there, but sometimes when I see people smoking in public places and on the sidewalks (the laws are too lax here), I seriously get miffed, especially when they're in front of the hospital that I work in. Usually I imagine locking them all up in a small room with zero ventilation, and letting them choke on their own smoke. I get so annoyed, it's tough for me to think otherwise.

Tomscy that is nothing new my friend. The rich and elite own over 85 percent of the worlds resources (the top 10%) while the top 1% owns more than 45% of the world's wealth. There are so many inadequacies around the world it's not funny. So it looks like the same thing is poisoning China now?

Well let me see, from what you've described it seems we have some new landlords who have been appointed to the upper echelons of Chinese society. It makes me grin a bit because you only have to read up on the dark ages of Europe to see that surfdom got the poor nowhere fast. I highly doubt this modernized version of it will get any of the impoverished farmers/factory workers/villagers of China who in many ways are treated like second class citizens in their own country any further then it did in Europe. Yes China is thriving but as economically potent as it may currently be it cannot escape the world and as such globalization will have it's eventual impact. As for being a superpower they have had superpower status for some time and being/maintaining the status quo of a superpower isn't the answer for solving their social problems as well as other problems which I can't openly discuss on here. Until the powers that be finally capitulate to the needs of their people and understand it's them that serve the people and not the other way around China will not move forward as a nation. The only reason that the powers that be have been able to remain in their tower of power is because they have sustained economical growth through national and foreign investment. Unfortunately as China moves further forward it's now only a matter of time before the industrialists both national and foreign begin to look elsewhere to cheaper paying areas of the world thereby leaving China saddled with huge problems on their hands.

 

An that is my two cents an I shall say no more on the subject.
