Never again shall I read any of the new-and-upcoming headphones threads. The amount of people without a functioning brain in there is just... depressing. Story time:
Because now I'm very interested in the UE6k after Tyll's review, I went and go to that thread by Swimsonny. Up to the point before someone posted about Tyll's review (the thread seems to be born before that) all was fine and dandy. Out comes Tyll's impressions, somewhere in there he said that he liked both the UE9k and 6k more than the K550, and my god my IQ drops together with everyone's comments in there. Sigh. Way to take Tyll's somewhat detailed reason why he liked the K550 into an absolute word of god. Now it becomes "Tyll likes the UE more than the AKG" without all the reason he likes it so. Then queue a newbie saying that (s)he has the UE6k, K550 and something else, and lo and behold (s)he likes the K550, and saying that she's not the same as Tyll. Well thanks Captain Obvious. Bla bla bla brain-hurting comments henceforth.

This came out looking very incoherent, but I can't fix it somehow. I guess that's the effect of that thread.

I see a lot of people refer to chicklet keyboards, and what they mean are the conventional square-capped keyboards a lot of laptops have these days.

Admittedly though, you'd be pretty well off with the Samsung. Despite the older technology, the graphics card is still one the best mobile graphics cards.

 

To be honest, there are some things I don't like about the Samsung. Namely, the gamer lights, the bloatware, and the dual 750gb (8gb cache) hard drives acting as OS in raid. I might just match the Samsung's specs on a debranded Clevo NP170, with an SSD and 90% FHD Gamut display for a couple hundred more --and maybe an i7-3740QM. With a strong base system I can always upgrade the overpriced components later. That really does make the Clevo an atractive solution. 

 

Interestingly, there is a 4gb Kepler version of the GTX 675 out; the 675MX. Its half the price of the 680M and is 20% faster than the current 675M. It could be a possibility, though I'd rather wait for a 2gb Kepler card.

Also, Huddler really needs to do something about its Reply box. I know my netbook is low powered, but I can zip away through the page and then just crash into a wall once I hit it.

Something that is neutral, even clinical, with a low, low output impedance. I'd avoid tubes. The Burson Soloist seems to be a good match, for a reasonable price, by all accounts. I use my Zodiac Gold, but it's $4500-5000, though you do get a TotL DAC for that too.

Probably less bang for your buck than the Soloist, but I like mine with the Lehmann Black Cube Linear, which is a very fast, somewhat on the bright side of neutral amp.

 

My Burson HA160D certainly gives them a nice flavor, but I wouldn't recommend it as their main amp.

 

 

I think I'm enjoying Death Grip's new album, but I feel awkward going through tracks in it on campus because the album art's a penis.

MF Enjoy Portland. Are you headed for Reed?I have several friends scattered throughout the NW from when I lived in Seattle. Portland's an easier city to living in, great neighborhoods, incredible food (though you've got to stand in line everywhere), and good public transport (though you're probably not so interested in that).

I never buy anything blindly because it always results in buyer's remorse. I'm always first to look at reviews and comparisons as much as I can if I can't get a hands on test.

I'm listening the album here. Instrumentation is crazy and very loud. It's like a mix of Rap and Ambient ( or whatever heavy electronic music). Do English native speakers feel disgusted or disturbed  listening to something like this?
