As the years have gone by the mellow sounding music has slowly started to add up in my collection. Iron Maiden is more nostalgia nowadays

Well it's a first for me. I've had the odd wow moment with various gear but I've never been stunned by a whole album which I at one time didn't particularly care for.

Hey tom, am I alone in thinking the 4A can do electronica music very well? It doesn't have that visceral like bass like the M-100 does but it's still quite an enjoyable listen nonetheless

Snorah is the musical equivalent of Chamomile Tea. biggrin.gif She'll bore some people to death, but I love her because she's unobtrusive, yet has an innate depth.

@DF: This is the kind of boring, mellow music I'm talking about, and why I tend not to pay attention to Eddie the Head, or else I may not ever get beyond REM sleep... redface.gif

I think it does. The DTEC driver is very fast, and offers a good punch since it's lightly lifted in response at 125 Hz or so.

I'll probably be adding a more linear model like the UERM (not the UEPRM) or CW-L05QD to complete the CIEM trifecta at some point.

That looks positively gorgeous, congrats! Didn't even know they had colour choices.

Was curious as to how you managed to get the impressions over to them (assuming you're in the US), unless it was through some secret means you aren't privy to share. Just realized I probably won't get the opportunity to go abroad anytime soon, so plans for the C435 came to a halt.

Ho hum, it's almost 1 in the morning on my side of the screen. Originally the plan was a quick 30 mins of music on the 4A and then crash for the night. That was almost 90 mins ago. I  got to get up early tomorrow for work ciao and God bless guys/girls. It's time I packed it in for the night and crashed.

I'm right here with you. I was supposed to do my research paper, along with reading the remaining 500 slides than will be on my exam on Tuesday.

Nighty night.

Night you two :) So I'm not gonna post my new rig until I get them secured together. And no, boys and girls, it's not a super high end, though it's the slimmest set I've used before :)

Silent night, everyone...

And me? I've got some some audio shopping to mull over, as suggested by my signature below.

Yeah, the HD800 and HD650 should be fine. FWIW some tubes still don't give a totally black background that I like, but actual hum isn't really present at volumes I listen to normally. Same w/ Audez'e. Only the HE-6 was totally black up until the very highest volume setting.

I'm a little surprised you don't hear any hum with the M50. It's quite possible you just have quiet tubes, or maybe 35 ohms is the cutoff point for "really sensitive." Or maybe when I say hum you're thinking I mean "bzzzzzt" or something? It's much more subtle.

The TH900 is 25 ohms. I'm thinking people just didn't hear the background noise because of meet conditions. Like I said, it's very subtle.

Before the mods, the amp was much nosier. Like, actual buzzing. Abnormal. It was problematic enough for Dr. Cavalli to not find it acceptable and temporarily suspend sales. Now I'd say the problem is pretty much resolved. Yeah, there's still hum, but it's just a matter of the tubes: most 6SN7s will give you a gain of 8 or so. That's just too high IMHO for sensitive headphones. Never mind the hum, you'll get very little volume play unless you can control the volume quite a bit via your source.

Originally the LG had two 1/4 jacks: a low Z jack and a normal one. The low z used resistors to lessen the output I think. Dr. Cavalli decided to scrap that idea and replace the low Z jack with a second normal XLR. That was a good idea since it improves the versatility of the amp, but I still wish there was a low Z output of some sort. That's why I've been talking to him about the adapter.

Listening to a bunch of High res music with my Flat 4s. Just drooling on many of these tracks.... It's hard to believe these things are dynamic IEMs due to their speed...

Isn't it great when that happens? Sometimes the recording needs the right combination of equipment to bring out what the music's about, and sometimes it's all a matter of being in the right place, right time, and right frame of mind. It's that "click" you feel when the artist's language suddenly becomes comprehensible, or when you realize you've gotten inside the flow for the first time.

Would you say that - for this album - the gear made all the difference?  IOW, will I not get it unless I get something comparable?
