Both times I've managed to find a opportunity to hear them. And with the F111 I even had them in my ears.

Alas fate is a fickle mistress. What's more fickle is the stupid battery life on this Clip Zip that would die out in one song. Also didn't have the time later on.

$595 is a bit...no. Was just thinking of Tenso route.

Oh, Muppet, great IEM goddess, please answer our pleas

From the looks of it indeed price japan is cheaper. By more than $100 I think. I'm still pissed I didn't buy my Sui from them instead... angry_face.gif

From the perspective of someone who's been to various countries from Japan to Mexico to India, China was nothing like I expected.

The main difference is the way people treat you. In most countries people see Americans and act incredibly hospitable and kind. Whether or not they actually like us is another story, but they at least act that way. China is a whole different beast... it's a man eat dog world (I didn't eat any, but I did see it being sold) and the Americans are the dogs. In markets, they price things 10x higher unless you threaten to leave the store. Taxis drive in circles to build up their meter and get you to pay more. Pickpockets are everywhere and tourist attractions have multiple layers of tickets that you don't realize you have to pay for until you get to them.

On the other hand, you could view it as a challenge. Welcome to China, prepare to be screwed. Unless you screw them back, and in a sense you earn a little respect from the locals when you can.

Their clubs kinda suck though. People in China can't dance yet. Maybe in 5 years I'll go back and check on the scene.

====

Meanwhile, on the topic of Beats. I went to China with 60-70 other students from my university. Since I was in China, Beats seemed to be the "electronic gadget" (if you can call headphones gadgets) to buy within my group. Being as into headphones as I am, I was surprised when I realized I never had really given Beats a listen. In the end I did end up trying them but had to control myself not to be too critical at the risk of sounding like an elitist prick.

On the other hand, I think some of my friends were surprised to hear that Beats weren't as good as they were hyped up to be and I let them try my IEMs to compare. We started comparing IEMs (apple pods, my iems, various other ones people had) and we actually had a good time. While they didn't necessarily share my interest or care that Beats were worse, I think they were receptive to the fact that I was passionate about the subject. I've been struggling to figure out a balance between the me I present to the world and the "other" me, which includes all my interest in audio. As I grow up more, I notice that the gap between the two seems to get smaller and smaller.

It made me realize how little I incorporate audio into my social world. I'm considering starting an audio or headphone club at my uni but I don't know if I'm the right person for the job -- I'm pretty inexperienced as is.

Our tomorrows are not guaranteed - putting off until tomorrow what you could do today may prevent you from potentially becoming who you were meant to be.

A vid for inspiration!

Don't be pissed yet, there is no actual guarantee they can procure them...

Woudn't she be a more than just an IEM goddess?

Finally I am ready to bestow a name to my MDR-7550. Since it demands exacting standards to be followed (not-crap recordings, exact fitting, proper mindset) and it also strives to show the proper voice of a recording no matter the cost, she shall be called Chiri-chan. <3

Gladly she's not exactly the same as her namesake, but I can be glad when it comes to that eventually. :3

Pineapple goddess?

I'll let your imagination fill in the rest...

Though it does mean she has complete dominance over an entire subset of audio. Still pretty impressive.

If we gave turntables and electrostatics to her as well, that would be sort of unfair.

I keep confusing Dole pineapples with the Chiquita banana lady. Just a random thought.
