The diary entries of a little girl in her 30s! ~ Part 2 - Page 585

Well so much for that, until this morning I was the highest bidder on a Sennheiser HD 650. Someone came along and outbid me and now the bidding has heated up. Considering the can Is used and there's visible scratches on the headband the price has started to approach the area of not being worth it.
The problem right now as far as the 4A is concerned is I don't know what I should use as a gauge to determine if I have a proper seal. When I'm walking with them in I'm hearing cars etc all around me while others on the thread have commented that they hear absolutely nothing when out and about. When
Home i seem to be getting an almost perfect fit. Last night I was even able to lie in bed with them for a couple of hours with no issues whatsoever. When I'm out and about though I find myself having to fidget with them once every 20 or 30 minutes though and give them a light tap in. I'm not sure if its placebo and me having this thing in my head that I absolutely have to fidget with them or if there really is a problem.

Hey DF, I don't know if I missed it, but have you compared between the M80 and the M100?

Awhile ago, what would you like to know? I'm about to go get breakfast and shoot out of the house for work but if you post your questions I'll answer them later on tonight when I get home

In my experience, this tends to happen with all acrylic customs. I fidget with them all the time; I must've worn at least 5 or 6 shells now, and they never have the absolute perfect fit every single time. Sometimes, you hit the sweet spot, sometimes you're constantly fussing over the fit.

That's the problem I'm not sure if I have the sweet spot. I find it weird I can wear them at home for 2 or 3 hours with no issue but when I'm walking around with them outside I'm fidgeting with them every 30 mins or so. I always thought with CIEMs you either got a seal or not.

Weird. I never went through any sort of learning curve with my ES5s, and found I was able to rock and twist them in and out easily from the moment I took them out of the box. Never had any sort of issues out and about vs. at home, it's always a perfect seal each and every time and I can smile, talk, eat, yawn, doesn't matter, the seal never breaks.

Been doing a ton of A/B with the Flat-4 vs. the Heaven VI and I think after all of this time, I might be back on team dynamic, there's something in terms of feel that I haven't been able to find in any of the armature based IEMs vs. dynamic as of yet. With that said, the VI is a mighty fine IEM indeed, and is easily the best arm based IEM I've heard to date. I hope to be able to sum up my thoughts in a more cogent manner in the coming days

Mainly with regards to isolation and bass, and which one of the two that have less vocal suckout. I realise that these are first and foremost bassy headphones though, so I'm not really expecting them to be a go-to headphones for vocals, but more for (trans)portable use.

I've come to the conclusion that portable use could always use a bit more bass to compensate for background noise.

EDIT: And general sound signature comparison to the FXT90 if you still have it.

I cannot remember where but someone posted a site with sounds to do seal tests...that could help.

Does anyone here have an entry level tube amp that's not getting any use?

yup.

In general, cheap tube amps are not as good as cheap solid state amps, dollar for dollar. The better ones have a particular sound that can be really appealing, but IMO the downsides outweigh the upsides.

At higher budgets, it's a different matter.

Honestly, for $450 you'd be hard pressed to find something better than the Bijou if you like its sound. Are you able to easily contact the original builder?

You've got good taste! Two of my favorite earphones from last year.

I've kind of developed a thing for single driver balanced armatures like the FADs and FitEar F111.

Yup, the builder is a member of this site. I'm choosing between the Bijou and a Little Dot MK VI. I have no listening experience with either amp, so I'm relying on y'alls expertise to guide me. Which one would be best for driving Senn HD600/700's? I don't mind tube-rolling, if that matters.

$450? Here's what "$450" brought to my front porchevil_smiley.gifon 24 February, 2012:

698367

A 6AS7 based OTL amp from 2359glenn|studio. My current tube complement is:

United Electronics USAF-596 rectifier (1957)

Tung-Sol 5998 power tubes

Tung-Sol Black Glass Round Plates VT-231 drive tube (1944 appx)

If I had skill, time and confidence, I would build a tube amp. I think I would get a lot of satisfaction from seeing something I built light-up and sound good.

I have the same thoughts; leaning this way toward the future. It will be very satisfying...
