What about those $7 Monoprice IEMs? Perhaps he would consider paying for a set so you could harvest their filters. Let him know this is his last chance, and if he refuses you will give him negative feedback.
Honestly, if he's that much of a tight-ass about this then other sellers need to be warned. I have no sympathy when it comes to people over-rating the state of their gear.
I know I've mentioned this story before, but once I purchased a pair of Ultrasone Edition 9s from this collector in Italy. He described them as "like new: 9 out of 10." When I got them, I discovered 9 out of 10 meant their metallic logos were flaking off exposing the hideous brown undercoating, the metal finish of the cups was bubbling off, the cable was frayed, and the entire package reeked of cigarette smoke to the point of permanence.
Cigarette smoke smell ticks me off. I've had headphones come in that smelled of sweat too, but I suppose there is no helping that. I dunno if you can ever get the filters off IEMs without the adhesive losing its 'tack' though. The old hifiman filters really are the best and I don't know who else sells something similar besides say, Audeo. (I have no idea if they would fit but I am going to see if they do from my friends pair).
I sent him a message anyway.
Oh those have filters? I have a pair I got to see what the hype was about. I don't know how much postage from the us to aussy is but it shouldn't be too much if I just threw them into an envelope. If the seller still sucks I can send mine to you, I abhor them, and never use them.
Nah its okay. Not worth the time to post them heh. Thank you for the offer though :) I'll probably end up getting the hifiman filters.
